Letter To The Editor: See Library Exhibit On Women’s Right To Vote

By JEFFREY HOWELL
Los Alamos

What an impressively conceived and executed exhibit! There’s so much important information, and the way it’s presented makes it easy to want to absorb it all.

The objects add so much to the overall approachability and are fascinating and beautiful on their own but somehow make the words and pictures even more vivid. I plan to visit several times to take it all in.

Thank everyone who worked so hard and long to provide this to the community. Such a tribute to the generations of League of Women Voters members here and elsewhere.

Note: The exhibit “Women’s Votes, Voters’ Read More

Letter To The Editor: Metzger’s Demonstrates Excellent Customer Service

By JULIE WANGLER
Los Alamos

I find that customer service is a big part of doing business in Los Alamos. I have an example of excellent service at Metzger’s from Friday, and I could give many more examples from lots of the businesses in town on other days.

I went into Metzger’s with a jewelry box that needed new screws in order to be fixed. Clay took out one of the screws that were still in the box to make sure he was getting the right size. He then got the needed screws and proceeded to fix the box for me.

So for 41 cents, I have a beautifully fixed box. It is a pleasure doing business when businesses go above and Read More

Letter To The Editor: Inadequacies For The Handicap An Issue

By JoAnn Johnson
Los Alamos

As I approach my 90th birthday I have become aware of the inadequacies for the handicap in Los Alamos.

After you park in the handicap at the Municipal Bldg., you can navigate a long, empty corridor without a railing.

Fuller Lodge has two handicap spots. I do not know how few Smith Auditorium has.

After you leave your car in the handicap parking at the library and turn the corner of the building, the railing quits. Exiting the library and making a right turn on Central, there is a lone parking place that blocks the view of the pedestrian crossing.

By BRANDI ENGEMAN
Los Alamos
Registered voters in Los Alamos School Board District 2, especially those who care about engaged and present representation on our local school board: please vote for Antonio Jaurigue (pronounced: How-dig-gee), to represent our Chamisa Family.
Those of us in the district know that Chamisa is not just an elementary school; it is a tight-knit community of families, educators, and neighbors who come together through good and bad to help the children in our care thrive.
Antonio Jaurigue is one of us. He shares our Chamisa values of “Teamwork, Family, Community” and

Letter To The Editor: The Problem With Local Vacant Buildings

By BOB BOURQUE
Los Alamos

The problem with vacant commercial buildings is that they are vacant.

The first priority should be to get them filled. Many complain about excessive rents.

I suspect this is due to the dominance of LANL and Kroger. Perhaps the County can take some of the ample sums provided by LANL to give tax incentives, or even subsidies, to businesses who want to fill those vacant eyesores.

Perhaps the County can even purchase these buildings thus providing it with rental income. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Celebrating Dragonfly Playhouse Opening In White Rock

By ELLEN SPECTER
Executive Director, First Born Program of Los Alamos
LAPS School Board Vice President

I am writing this letter to celebrate the opening of White Rock’s newest early learning center, Dragonfly Playhouse. This homebased business will soon move into the building formerly occupied by Sage Cottage Montessori on Rover Boulevard.

In fact, this site has housed a daycare business for more than 50 years. Owner Lauren Lippiatt has shepherded her business through all of the county processes and met or exceeded all of the requirements. I hope there will be no needless delays, as she already Read More

Letter To The Editor: Message To Elected Democrats…

By TJ TAUB
Former longtime Los Alamos resident

Dear Elected Democrats wherever you are:

As a Party, the fact that you cannot commit to working as a unified front – even facing the current anti-science, anti-vaccine mass stupidity (think Mao’s China, Hitler’s Germany) that comprises what is probably the most serious threat ever faced by this country – perfectly illustrates the fundamental problem which has plagued the Democratic Party for decades.

You appear to be as incapable of seeing the larger picture and working together, as the Cult is capable of focusing on and achieving its deplorable, Read More

Letter To The Editor: Reply To Unnamed Anti-Vaxer

By ROBERT BOURQUE, Ph.D., P.E.
Los Alamos

I am replying to the unnamed anti-vaxer’s comment in the Aug. 11 Letters, and to others who are reluctant or refuse to get the COVID vaccines because they are “experimental”.

That seems to be just a legality to cover liability. In fact, experiments have already been done on nearly 200,000,000 “guinea pigs” in the US.  And the vaccines have been proven to be well over 99 percent effective. Isn’t that enough?

I’m sorry, but it is not one’s First Amendment right to infect other people. Just like it is not one’s First Amendment right to drive without a seatbelt. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Message To Los Alamos Businesses

By Concerned Community Member

Editor’s note: The author made their identity known to the Post but due to the sensitive topic of this letter, we are respecting their request to remain anonymous.

Letter addressed to Los Alamos businesses:

Recently the Los Alamos County Council received a request from our NM Governor, Michelle Lujan  Grisham, requesting they encourage Los Alamos County businesses to mandate the vaccines for employees or vaccination/negative testing for their patrons (link).

Sadly, on the evening of August 10, 2021, the Los Alamos County Council approved this approach Read More
