Fr. Glenn: Not Playing To The Crowd

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

In the games of a democratic republic such as ours, we daily see politicians of every stripe vying for votes. “What can I say … what policy can I implement, or at least promote … that will gain me the most votes?” And, as we’ve seen probably since the beginning of democracies since ancient Greece, aspiring politicians promise the world, but often can—or will— provide only crumbs.

I often chuckle when I read the story of the trees in Judges 9. The trees clamor for the choicest trees/plants to be leaders, but those decline because they do not want to give up their joy and pleasant life. Read More

Home Country: Blessed July Evenings

Home Country
By SLIM RANDLES

It’s the heat that defines us this month. It greets us at daybreak with its promise, but in an hour or so, it bears down on our shoulders and makes us dream of shade and something cold to drink.

The best thing about our hot season, however, are evenings when most of the earth cools, and that breeze slides in off the mesa and caresses our cheeks. Then it’s time to sit, and laugh, and tell stories and just be with someone we love. Then is the culmination of a day we can be proud of.

Inside each of us, we silently and privately applaud ourselves, because the hot day tried us, but we did Read More

Dr. Keller’s Zoom talk will be 6:30 p.m. MDT, Wednesday, July 7.

Abstract. The story of Adam and Eve in Genesis has been the topic for numberless commentaries and even wise humor. But were those two really the first humans and are we somehow tainted by their fall from grace?

Most scripture scholars hold that this story (as well as much of the early parts of Genesis) were not meant to be factual, but rather to send a deep Read More
