Sunday Luncheon To Raise Funds For School Supplies

Back-to-school is a great time of year for parents, but some have a hard time with–it: those who can’t afford school supplies for their kids.

Los Alamos Christian Church at 92 East Road is hoping to help lift that load.

For the second consecutive year, Los Alamos High School graduate Victoria Hypes is hosting a luncheon to raise money to buy school supplies to donate to the schools. The lunch will feature pulled pork, corn and coleslaw, with brownies and cupcakes for dessert, along with a vegetarian option.

It can be difficult to find a way to fundraise and actually offer something that people need or want. La Vista Church is trying a new angle—ultrasonic blind cleaning.

Friends of the church have offered to bring their expertise and their ultrasonic machine to White Rock, for this weekend only, to clean blinds or golf clubs for a suggested donation that will be given to the La Vista Church.

And although we are typically in fierce competition with birds to get them as they ripen, this year the birds seemed sated by other food sources and took only a modest share. The Rio Arriba County Fair is July 29-Aug. 1 and the Rio Arriba County Fair Association is welcoming all food, arts and crafts, promotional and information vendors to participate.

Verde Juice owner Kelly Egolf began juicing seriously by necessity. After an operation required her jaw to be wired shut for months.
