The Friends of Coronado & Jemez Historic Sites present a lecture by Emily Brown, Ph.D., entitled, “Musical Instruments of the Prehispanic Southwest,” 2–3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28.

Archaeological excavations in the Four Corners region have revealed a multitude of musical instruments: from whistles to rattles to rasps. District Music Competition Open For Submissions

The Los Alamos Music Teachers Association opens the invitation for serious music students to compete in the annual District Honors Auditions held by the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico.

The Northeast-I District Competition, which is open to all students in Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos, Espanola, and Las Vegas and surrounding areas, will be held Saturday, Oct. 18 at UNM-Los Alamos.

Dances Of India Presents ‘The Little Indian Mermaid’ Oct. 5

COMMUNITY News:

The community is invited to attend the 2025 Dances of India’s production, “The Little Indian Mermaid”, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Duane Smith Auditorium.

The show will feature students of The Family YMCA Kathak program, and guest dancers and actors from the Los Alamos community.

No tickets are required, but donations are welcome. This year, all proceeds from the show will go to the Y Latin America’s program for youth mental health, ELEVA!

The Los Alamos Good News Clubs are starting next week. Each Club meets 2:40-4:30 p.m. once a week after school and features Bible and missionary stories, Scripture memory, songs, games, snacks, prizes and occasional crafts.

The Clubs are non-denominational, are entirely free, and run from September through the end of April.  No Clubs on snow days, holidays, or parents’ conference days. Parents must fill out a registration form.

Santa Fe Pro Musica Opens 44th Season Oct. 5

SANTA FE — Santa Fe Pro Musica opens its 44th season at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center. The Season Opening Orchestra Concert features American composer, pianist, and singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane, with his work “If love will not swing wide the gates”, written for the New York Philharmonic’s principal clarinetist Anthony McGill.

The program opens with Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings, Op. 22, showcasing expressive harmonies, lyrical melodies, and vibrant energy with the Pro Musica Orchestra, followed by a collection of Kahane’s Songs.
