Toppers Band Marches in Disneyland Parade

LAHS TOPPERS BAND News:

It's Spring Break and the Los Alamos High School Toppers Band is out and about marching in the Disneyland Parade.

They also got a chance to work with one of Disney’s directors in their recording studios laying down three tracks, one of which was the classic “When You Wish Upon a Star.“

Besides their adventures at Disney, they are touring museums, movies studios, going to the beach and taking in a performance of West Side Story.

The Dixon Community Players present Holly’s Follies 2: A Tribute to Gershwin this weekend.

It is an original production conceived and directed by Holly Haas. Featuring songs, music and dance from more than 20 Gershwin shows and movies.

The Dixon production features several Los Alamos residents including Jeff Favorite, Rose Corrigan and George Spillman.

Sheila Schiferl of Los Alamos is the music director.

Musician Daniel Isle Sky performing Friday April 5, at the Coffee House Café, 723 Central Ave. in Los Alamos. Deadline Looms for Hastings Smith Vocal Scholarship

The mailing deadline of April 8 is fast approaching for college-bound high school seniors who will graduate this spring and want to apply for a $500 scholarship awarded to students dedicated to singing. 

The Hastings Smith Memorial Vocal Scholarship is among the musical education opportunities offered by the Santa Fe-based Sangre de Cristo Chorale to enrich the lives of young people in the region.

The Chorale, now in its 35th year, awards the scholarship to two applicants per year who want to excel in singing.

The Los Alamos Choral Society is celebrating its 70th anniversary with an active Spring schedule.

The Choral Society is directed by Dr. Mary Badarak and Cindy Little is the piano accompanist. At 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Duane Smith Auditorium, the Choral Society will join with the Los Alamos Community Winds and the Los Alamos High School Choirs in a performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
