Clarinets come in sections. Each section attaches to the other by means of a tenon and sleeve joint – one section has the sleeve, the other has the tenon which protrudes from the body of the section.
 
There is a cork on each tenon which allows a snug, and most importantly, air-tight fit.
 
Cork is wunnerful stuff. But it doesn’t last forever. Eventually it mashes down and wears out and then the joint gets wobbly, leaks air, and your instrument won’t play right. Time to change the tenon cork.

A chord is any three or more different letter notes, either in a stack or in melodic sequence. This definition reflects modern usages and spellings.
 
Certainly Bach would not have been quite so liberal in his definition. In the Common Practice period – appx. 1700-1900, Bach to Wagner, a chord would have been specifically a triad with, or without, the addition of the 7th (and, later, the 9th and the 11th.)
 
Other than the 7th, any note which was not part of a triad would have been considered a non-chord tone.

The final Pajarito Mountain Beer and Band event of this season will be noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at the Pajarito Mountain Ski Area.

The beer will be from Marble Brewery and the band will be the Craig Martin Experience.

The Craig Martin Experience (CME) came together in late 2010 as a loose assemblage of musicians interested in sharing ideas on jazz performance.

CME’s repertoire is an eclectic mix of about 60 tunes from the 1930s to the present.

Los Alamos Community Winds Announces Scholarship

The Los Alamos Community Winds is pleased to announce the 2013 Music-Filled Life Scholarship.

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who is enrolled in the instrumental music program at Los Alamos High School as a wind, brass, or percussion student, or if home-schooled can provide evidence of substantial musical activity.

This may include, but is not limited to private lessons, or participation in community music ensembles.
