Letter To The Editor: Great Local Businesses

By CAMILLE MORRISON
Los Alamos

Our family calls CB FOX C&B’s. They don’t care what you call them as long as you shop there.

I rented a vacation apartment in Albuquerque for five years. I spent $5,000 on furniture from CB FOX. It was delivered in two trips at a charge of $150 for each trip. I bought a recliner in Albuquerque. They wanted $75 to deliver it to the apartment. My husband put it in his truck.

I sold the furniture on consignment when I gave up the apartment. Gary wanted to know what I had paid for the bedroom furniture. I showed him the bill of sale. He said you really got a good

Letter To The Editor: Seeing Both Sides Of The Coin

By LAURA LOY
Los Alamos

I find myself in a unique position to see why both issues being raised on the mail-in ballot in January are worthy of our community’s support, and here is why.

First and foremost, I am the parent of a student attending Barranca Mesa Elementary School. While the initiative to rebuild Barranca will most likely not benefit my daughter personally before she moves on to Los Alamos Middle School, I fully support the bond being put forth by Los Alamos Public Schools. Our investment in education is so important to our community and especially our youth, who are the leaders of the future.

Letter To The Editor: Taxpayers Should Set Capital Priorities

By JIM REDMAN
Los Alamos

I am outraged that the Council should be trying to repeat the “Kiddie Pool” bond ruse with a new recreational bond election (link).

Having raided the taxpayers capital fund for the projects that Council and staff feel important we find that it is short money for popular “recreational” projects. Thus the bond election hoping that the tax payers will vote for a property tax increase to fund these projects.

We have seen excessive spending by Councils in recent memory and I have no confidence in any Council’s judgment in spending our money. As taxpayers, we need to be sure Read More

Letter To The Editor: Support Local!

By JAMES CHROBOCINSKI
Los Alamos County Councilor
Owner/Broker Zia Realty Group

As President of the Los Alamos County Little League I want to thank our two local Pizza restaurants Time Out Pizza and Home Run Pizza for their long time support.

These two fine establishments have donated a great deal of time and money every year to support the hundreds of kids who participate in baseball and girls softball. LACLL has more than 500 kids who participate every year and we could not do it without the support of sponsors like Time out and Home Run.

With a large corporate pizza place coming

Letter To The Editor: Thank You Los Alamos

By Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk
And Turkey Trot Committee

The organizing committee for this year’s Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot would like to express its gratitude to the Los Alamos community for helping us raise over $14,000 to fight hunger locally and globally.

More than 180 people participated in our November 20th event, running or walking the 2.57 mile, or the shorter 1.7 mile, route from Los Alamos Middle School to, or through, the stables and back.

Several sponsoring businesses made it possible for us to gear up for the event. Our heartfelt

Letter To The Editor: Addressing Misunderstandings Related To Open Space, Mixed Use and Industrial Use

By JAMES CHROBOCINSKI
Los Alamos County Councilor
Owner/Broker Zia Realty Group

I would like to address some misunderstandings regarding a couple of lots addressed in the new Comprehensive Plan that have been a topic of conversation lately.

The lots in question are two of three lots directly across from the Los Alamos County Airport. All three lots are currently zoned as “INDUSTRIAL USE”. The County Council chose to designate the two lots along the road as “Mixed Use” with the third lot along the canyon that includes the Canyon Rim Trail being designated as “Open Space”.

Apparently, in

Letter To The Editor: The Problem Is Us…

By RICK NEBEL
Los Alamos

This is in response to the recent Letter to the Editor (letter) by the League of Women Voters.

My understanding is that Hillary Clinton spent twice as much as Donald Trump on the last election. How did THAT work out for her! Money isn’t the problem. The problem is us.
The reason candidates use attack ads is because they work. This isn’t anything new. About 100 years ago H. L. Mencken told us that “nobody ever went broke or lost an election by underestimating the taste of the American public.” He also told us

Letter To The Editor: Call For Council To Withdraw Open Space To Mixed Use Amendment Before Adopting Comprehensive Plan

By BARBARA CALEF And LYNN JONES
Los Alamos

To the Los Alamos County Council:

We object to the Council’s amendment of the Comprehensive Plan changing the parcels south of the airport and #502 from open space to multi-use after numerous meetings during which the public saw them marked as open space.

The fact that the members of the Planning and Zoning Commission could see no better designation than open space for the parcels south of the airport and #502 should give pause to the Council. Those pieces of land are narrow and are certainly beyond the current boundary of development on that side of the highway. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Fear Of Islam

By Dr. T. DOUGLAS REILLY
Los Alamos

I am appalled with all I read about Radical Islam, calls to intern US Muslims, and calls to bar further Muslim immigrants.

Now I hear Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn will be National Security Advisor (a post not requiring Congressional approval). Flynn has tweeted and said, “it is not irrational to fear Muslims and their religion.”

Fear of Islam, like many of our fears, is born from ignorance; few US citizens know Muslims or know much about the Islamic Faith. It is somewhat normal to fear the unknown.
