Letter To The Editor: Dumb

By ROY M. MOORE
Los Alamos

I’ve never seen the movie Dumb and Dumber, but when I saw Sara the ImPaler and McDonald T Rump touting that God and guns go together, all I could think of was dumb and dumber.

The problem is, I’m not sure who is dumb and who is dumber. Can anyone imagine Jesus with an M-16? What is wrong with our society that we appreciate the worst of humanity? Why isn’t there a smart and smarter? Why does Albuquerque worship Breaking Bad? Why wouldn’t they want to be known as Going Good? How is it that hatred of all things different is pushing Mr. T Rump to

Letter To The Editor: Thanks For Energetically Supporting Los Alamos Values

By JODY BENSON
Los Alamos

Out of about 11,080 mail-out ballots sent for the vote for/against the mill levy supporting the schools, more than half returned their ballot to pass the levy at more than two to one. Thank you!

Where else in America is there such an involved electorate? And beyond “involved electorate,” in supporting the mill levy, our voters understand that it is education that teaches us to value our own power in and responsibility to a democracy.

Thank you, voters. Yay. You know what your getting—technology upgrades, better ADA access, restroom and roof repairs… Oh, and remember

Letter To The Editor: Truck Traffic Along Central Avenue

By ALLEN COGBILL
Los Alamos

Central Avenue is a relatively low-speed street, and portions of it have relatively high levels of pedestrian traffic.

Nonetheless, it seems to be a favorite route for both county and LA public school vehicles. In particular, heavy trucks often use Central Avenue to travel to and from Diamond Drive.

The situation has been exacerbated since the county-school vehicle maintenance facility was established near Eastgate. I find this curious and rather annoying.

While it is true that the Central Avenue route is shorter than the Trinity Drive

Letter To The Editor: Planets

By ROY M. MOORE
Los Alamos

Since the five visible planets are all shining nicely in the early morning sky for the next few weeks, it seems like a good time to mention that NASA has announced the newest planet, number eleven.

Now NASA is calling it the 9th Planet after they demoted Pluto, but The Urantia Book says that our solar system formed with twelve planets. (It’s just like a bunch of scientists wanting to play God and demoting pour little Pluto.) The UB says a planet existed in the orbit between Mars and Jupiter but once came too close to Jupiter and split up resulting in the asteroid

NMAA Continues Exclusion Of Homeschool Teams

By PAUL GRAHAM
Los Alamos

My son joined the Jemez Mountain Homeschool Speech and Debate Team this year and I have been surprised by the drama surrounding our team’s participation at speech and debate events in the state even though the team has successfully participated for more than 15 years.

In September, when the team’s participation was first blocked, it became clear that homeschool student teams were treated very differently from other teams. At the time, the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) Handbook stated that homeschool students could participate, but could not win any state-level Read More

Letter To The Editor: School Ballot – Walk It In Monday Or Tuesday – Please vote Yes!

By KRISTIN HENDERSON
Los Alamos County Councilor, neighbor and concerned school supporter

This is a last-minute call out to please vote in the School Bond election by walking your ballot in to the County Clerk’s Office, and please vote yes! Especially if you are inclined to vote yes, you might think “everyone else will vote”. Please be one of those who do. Mail-in elections have much smaller turn-out, and this one is important!

If this bond fails, and your house is appraised at $300,000-, you will save $10 – a month. If it passes, your taxes stay the same.

Letter to the Editor: Trinity Drive Roundabout Revisited

By TONY AMSDEN
Los Alamos

It appears that the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has granted Los Alamos a one-year reprieve from the planned N.M. 502/Trinity Drive improvements that originally were scheduled for 2016.

Although roundabout opponents succeeded in eliminating a string of roundabouts up and down the length of Trinity, one remains in the plan where Central Avenue and N.M. 502 meet on the east side of downtown. The state had originally planned on improving N.M. 502 from Airport Road to Knecht Street without a roundabout.

NMDOT reluctantly agreed to the roundabout Read More

Letter To The Editor: Energy

By ROY M. MOORE
Los Alamos

In my quest to find intelligent life on Earth, I’ve come to a roadblock on the issue of moving our world from hydrocarbons to the exclusive use of renewable hydrogen as our only fuel.

I’ve written the President, my two Senators, my congressman, Gov. Martinez, the Navajo Nation, PNM, The Sierra Club, all my local representatives, several newspapers, several TV stations, and I’ve presented this very concept before our county council, until they kicked me out.

The Los Alamos Daily Post printed my letter to President Obama,

Letter To The Editor: Changes To ACT Bus Routes

By STEVEN CLARKE
Los Alamos

First, thank you to the county and ACT for a wonderful service. Our family has used the buses for many years.

For years, the ACT bus has been a great alternative for our children to get between the Middle School, High School and White Rock at times other than the standard school bus route times. Our family has used the buses extensively for before school and after school activities at the schools that are NOT served by the public school’s regular bus schedule.

We really appreciate
