Letter To The Editor: I Am Also A Victim

By LAHS Student

I am a victim of the nude photo scandal at the local high school. I however have a different view than that of the “Betrayed” news piece I read earlier today.

I, being a male, have been a victim. At least twice a week I have recieved nude photos from girls I didn’t want. I tried to get away from them, changing my phone number, my Snapchat, my email address. They wouldn’t stop.

These girls seem completely obsessed with me seeing pictures of their bodies. Never did they ask me if I wanted to receive them. Maybe we need to educate girls to be more modest, rather than blame the guys. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Current Council Should Reconsider Previous Request For Roundabout At Central

By JOEL WILLIAMS
Los Alamos

I second Tony Amsden’s call ( https://ladailypost.com ) for the County and State DOT to have a signal installed at Central-Trinity-N.M. 502 now that NMDOT has delayed its construction until 2017.

A traffic signal was NMDOT’s choice over a roundabout when they first addressed the roadway over a decade ago. NMDOT acquiesced to LAC when council chair Rogers and vice-chair Izraelevitz visited them 3-years ago in SF to convey council’s wishes for a roundabout.

A traffic signal is consistent with all of the other

Letter To The Editor: A Pigs Breakfast

By CHARLES BAYFIELD
Los Alamos

In December of 2014 Congress passed a law establishing the Manhattan Project National Historical Park (MPNHP). On Nov. 20 of 2015, the Department of Energy and the National Park Service signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the new park.

This is a golden opportunity for Los Alamos to become a real tourist destination. With Bandelier National Monument and the Valles Caldera National Preserve, we now have three National Parks very close to Los Alamos. In terms of economic development, nothing is better than tourism.

So far, Los Alamos

Letter To The Editor: Council Should Pursue Vice Chair O’Leary’s Budget Process And Format Proposal

By JOHN ARROWSMITH
Los Alamos

A few weeks ago Council Vice Chair Susan O’Leary proposed a change in the County’s budget process and format. Much of her proposal could improve County operations. In particular, her suggestion to move toward a programatic budget to help the Council and staff manage costs.

How could it work? The costs of various functions could be compared to other jurisdictions for reasonableness and to identify potential efficiencies.

Out of curiosity, I compared legislative and administrative costs, including finance, information technology and human Read More

Letter To The Editor: Enough’s Enough

By ROBERT VISEL
Los Alamos

Just because Los Alamos is the “richest city” in the country not everyone in Los Alamos makes $100,000 + a year. As a property owner here in Los Alamos, I’m getting real tired of being forced to pay for things I don’t, and will never, use!

I don’t have kids yet I’m expected to pay for the upkeep of the Schools. I don’t swim yet I’m expected to pay for a “Leisure Pool”. I don’t skate yet I’m expected to pay for the renovations to the Skating Rink. The list goes on and on and on and on. And, I will certainly never have a use for the “Rec. Center”.

I’m obviously not alone in this judging from Read More

Letter To The Editor: Hardly A Bipartisan Vote

By ED BIRNBAUM
Los Alamos

The story published in Saturday’s edition of the Los Alamos Daily Post entitled “Legislation Allowing Adjunct Teachers Passes House”, i.e., House Bill 145, describes this legislation as passing with “bipartisan” support on a 37-25 vote.

Republican Rep. Conrad James, the sponsor of the bill, also refers to this legislation as being passed with “bipartisan” support. However, a quick check on the vote for this legislation in the House will show you that only ONE Democratic representative voted for this legislation. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Excursions In Classical Music

By ROSALIE HELLER
Los Alamos

In a listing of  ways to learn more about classical music, I remind everyone that a locally produced music information program is Excursions in Classical Music.

I have presented these programs for KRSN from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Sunday since 2006 and each week the listener can learn about a different topic with music that illustrates the theme.

The program is streamed and listened to by New Mexicans and many others elsewhere. It has won three awards for excellence in broadcasting given by the New Mexico Broadcasting Association.

Letter To The Editor: Keep Entertaining Us

RHETA MOAZZAMI
Los Alamos

I think Los Alamos has our own Dave Barry. I was laughing out loud at “Have I got a Rumor for You,” from the pen of David Izraelevitz in the Jan. 28 edition of the Los Alamos Daily Post (column).

I encourage you to keep entertaining us, David. I couldn’t remember one of my favorite columnist’s names when I wrote this and had to look up Dave Barry. I found, “Dave Barry has been a professional humorist ever since he discovered that professional humor was a lot easier than working.”

I see a syndicated column if you just stick with it, David. But, keep working for us anyway.

Letter To The Editor: Refuting Pacheco And Nunez

By EDWARD BIRNBAUM
Los Alamos

The Jan. 26 Los Alamos Daily Post report in which Representatives Pacheco and Nunez call the Republican version of Real ID legislation that passed the House Judiciary Committee a “compromise”, is disingenuous at best, and an outright lie at worst.

Real “compromise” legislation was passed in the Senate 35-5 in last year’s session, with the support of almost all Democrats AND Republican’s, but was blocked by the House Republicans who never brought it up for a vote.

The fact that the legislation sponsored by Pacheco
