EL PASO, Texas — The FBI El Paso Division is warning the public about charity fraud, where scammers set up fake charities to take advantage of your kindness and line their pockets.

While these scams can occur at any time, they are especially prevalent after damaging events like hurricanes, flash floods and forest fires.

Legitimate charities aid communities affected by these events, but the scammer competes with these legitimate charities to divert your donations away from those who need it most, and back to the fake charity’s creator.

Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced Monday that Ervinson Yazzie pleaded guilty to one count each of distribution of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and possession of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
