FBI: Albuquerque Man Gets 27 Months For 5 Bank Robberies

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigations’ Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Jason Smeltzer was sentenced to 27 months in prison.

Smeltzer, 41, of Albuquerque, pled guilty to 5 counts of bank robbery on March 22, 2023.

TESUQUE — The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau investigated an officer involved shooting July 24, at 509B N.M. 592 in Tesuque.

Investigations Bureau agents learned that at around 9:30 p.m., NMSP officers were dispatched to 509B N.M. 592 in Tesuque in reference to a male subject making threats to the homeowner.

The homeowner advised her daughter’s boyfriend, Galen Mason-Muller, 23, of Algodones, was driving to her home to harm himself or someone else. The homeowner also stated Mason-Muller was known to carry a firearm.

Los Alamos County’s Emergency Management Office has released its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) draft for public review. New Mexico State Police Investigate Shooting Involving United States Marshals Service In Albuquerque

Monday July 24, 2023, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting (OIS) involving the United States Marshals Service.

NMSP agents learned that at around 2 p.m. on July 24, the Marshals were searching for James Rivera, 29, of Albuquerque, who has a lengthy criminal history and had cut off his ankle monitor. The Marshals had reason to believe Rivera was at an apartment complex at 1400 Pennsylvania St.

FBI: Three Men Pled Guilty To Federal Charges For Maintaining Drug-Involved Premises At Motel In Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Gregory M. Millard, Special Agent in Charge for the DEA El Paso Division, announced July 17, 2023 that Kamal Bhula, Pragneshkumar Patel and Johnathan Craft pled guilty to drug and firearms charges arising from a drug trafficking venture operated from a motel in Albuquerque.

Bhula and Craft will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

FBI: Two Navajo Brothers Charged With Carjacking Resulting In Serious Bodily Injury

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced today that Brian Levi and Daryl Levi were arraigned on an indictment charging them with carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury.

Brian, 37, of Shiprock, and his brother, Daryl, 40, of Shiprock, enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, will both remain in custody pending trial, which has not been scheduled.
