LAPS: Save The Date For Safety Town 2023!

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) reminds the community to save the date for Safety Town. This year the free program for all children entering kindergarten in the fall is 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday, June 5 through Friday, June 9 at Barranca Mesa Elementary School.

Registration is open April 17 through May 22. The program is limited to 100 participants.

State Police Seek Driver Causing Fatal Crash In Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE — At around 8 a.m. March 12, a New Mexico State Police (NMSP) officer on patrol in Albuquerque drove up on a fatal crash on Interstate 25 northbound at Montano.

The initial investigation indicated that a 2002 Buick Century, driven by Marlene Platero, 66, of To’Hajilee, NM, and a 2022 Jeep were both traveling north on Interstate 25. The Buick encountered a water heater laying in the roadway. The Buick swerved to avoid hitting the water heater and collided with the Jeep.

FBI: Albuquerque Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For Assault And Firearms Violations

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced today that Byron Rosetta was sentenced to 10 years and one day in prison.

Rosetta, 38, of Albuquerque, and an enrolled member of the Kewa Pueblo, pleaded guilty June 22, 2022, to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon in Indian Country and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence.

Santa Fe County sheriff’s deputies investigated a domestic disturbance Sunday morning involving Sen. Cliff Pirtle, a leading Republican from Roswell, whose wife alleged she found him in a rented Santa Fe home with another woman, according to law enforcement documents.

Pirtle, who was largely missing from Monday’s Senate floor session, said in a brief interview it was a “personal matter”.

NMSP Arrest Two 16-Year-Old Boys For I-25 Homicide

DONA ANA COUNTY — At approximately 9 p.m. Friday, March 3 the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau responded to a homicide on Interstate 25 near mile marker 8 outside of Las Cruces.

Investigations Bureau agents learned that 17-year-old Benjamin Archuleta and a passenger were traveling south on I-25 when the shooting occurred.
