DEA Drug Take-Back Initiative Returns To Los Alamos

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department would like to announce that it will once again host three collection sites 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 as a part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s drug take-back day initiative. 

  • Site 1: Los Alamos Police Department lobby at 2500 Trinity Dr. (please deposit prescription medications into the drop box)
  • Site 2: White Rock Visitor Center at 115 N.M. 4, east side parking lot.
  • Site 3: Smith’s Marketplace at 751 Trinity Dr., south side parking lot near the patio.

Los Alamos Police Chief Releases 2nd Qtr. Crime Stats

LAPD News:

Today, Los Alamos Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone released crime statistics for the second quarter of 2015, which were compiled by the department’s records division.

Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property. The offenses of murder (homicide), manslaughter, rape, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault make up the violent crime category. The offenses of arson, burglary, larceny and auto theft make up the property crime category. Read More

N.M. 502 Has Reopened

NEWS Alert:

Los Alamos Police Cmdr. Oliver Morris just told the Los Alamos Daily Post that N.M. 502 has reopened at the site of this afternoon’s paint spill.

It turns out that what was thought to be white paint was actually drywall mud.

The driver left the scene and was located in Espanola. He was cited for driving with an unsecured load and may receive other charges.

Morris advises drivers to use extreme caution as the roadway is very slick, and if it rains, it will become more so. Read More

News Alert: Paint Spill Near Totavi Snarls Traffic Flow!

News Alert:

Approximately 50-75 gallons of white paint spilled from a vehicle traveling eastbound on N.M. 502 leaving Los Alamos. 

Los Alamos Police Cmdr. Oliver Morris said that the spill occurred at the blind spot before Totavi near the twin tanks. Traffic is being routed into the slow lane.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation just arrived on scene to begin cleanup operations, which may further impede traffic flow.

State Police Conduct Sobriety Checkpoints In September

NMSP News:

New Mexico State Police will be conducting Sobriety Checkpoints, Saturation Patrols, and Registration, Insurance and Drivers’ License Checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of September.

“Our efforts continue to show a significant reduction in alcohol related fatalities,” a police spokesman said. “This is attributed to the continued media attention and intensive advertising. Police And Firefighters Rescue Person From Cliff’s Edge

In the early morning hours in August the members of the Los Alamos Police Department were dispatched for a missing person on the south side of Los Alamos.

Police began an aggressive search for a lost adult who was last seen at around 1 a.m. that day.
