Police Invite Community To Memorial Ceremony May 13

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department invites the community to attend a brief memorial ceremony to honor law enforcement and corrections officers who have lost their lives in the service of others.

The ceremony is 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 13 in the northside parking lot of the police station. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the first floor lobby area of the Justice Center. Read More

Los Alamos Police Focus On Accident Related Violations

LAPD News:

Starting now and continuing through the summer, the Los Alamos Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement, focusing on accident related violations to include seatbelt enforcement.

The public can help reduce the risk of vehicle crashes by adhering to posted speed limit signs, allowing enough room between them and the vehicle they are following and driving with caution when roadways are wet.

Los Alamos County Police Launch Safety Town Program

LAPD News:

Los Alamos Police Department is welcoming applications for the inaugural Los Alamos County Safety Town.

This free program will run 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday June 15-26 at Mountain Elementary School. This program is open to children entering Kindergarten in August.

Safety Town will provide the opportunity for students to learn about several aspects of safety in the hopes of preparing them for the new hazards they will face as they enter school as well as hazards they may face in their neighborhoods and in the community. Los Alamos County Council voted 7-0 to tentatively adopt the Los Alamos Police Department’s FY-2016 proposed budget as presented. The LAPD FY-2015 adopted budget is $7,127,576 and its proposed FY-2016 budget is $7,139,312 – essentially flat over current year.

Athletes competed in the Los Alamos Special Olympics Track and Field Meet Saturday at Sullivan Field.

Several volunteers helped work the event and Los Alamos Firefighters also assisted and placed ribbons on athletes at the conclusion of their events.

Public Safety Alert:

Los Alamos County Sheriff Marco Lucero just contacted the Los Alamos Daily Post to issue a public safety alert regarding a scam underway in the Los Alamos area.

Someone identifying himself as a Los Alamos County sheriff’s deputy and using an actual deputy’s name is placing telephone calls to residents listed on the sex offender registry saying they must withdraw $1,000 in cash from the bank and take the money to Smith’s parking lot where they will be met by the deputy. “They must do this to avoid being placed in jail.”
