Los Alamos Police Chief Releases 3rd Quarter Crime Statistics

Today, Los Alamos Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone released crime statistics through the third quarter of 2014, which were compiled by the Department’s Records Division.

Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property (property crime). Burglary At The Catholic Church

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 3700 Canyon Road was burglarized sometime between Sunday evening and Tuesday morning. 
 
Culprits were able to manipulate the safe and obtain the weekend collection, so parishioners who wrote checks this weekend are advised to watch their bank account activity.  
 
The Los Alamos Police Department is investigating.

First Domestic Violence Outreach Meeting Held Oct. 9

LAPD News:

The first local Domestic Violence Outreach meeting was held Oct. 9 at the Los Alamos Police Daprtment.

Attendees expressed a desire to continue participating and some plan to bring others into the group. There were others invited who could not attend but plan on being involved. The group wants to unite organizations to facilitate service sharing/resources.

Motorcycle Driver Transported To LAMC In Stable Condition Following Accident On N.M. 502

Motorcycle Accident:

A man driving a motorcycle westbound on N.M. 502 at approximately 2:30 p.m. today, crashed into a guard rail and landed on the other side of it in the dirt.

Los Alamos Fire Department EMT’s treated the man, reported to be about 20 years old, at the scene and transported him in stable condition to Los Alamos Medical Center.

“He was wearing protective gear and that is so important,” Deputy Fire Chief Justin Grider said.

As a 15-year animal shelter volunteer, I would like to publicly recognize an officer who responded beyond his job description and upheld the highest of humane standards.

Cpl. Brent Hudspeth was called to 48th Street the evening of Oct. 11 to pick up some roaming kittens. He determined that the kittens were too young to comfortably and safely spend the night at the shelter, so he brought them to his own home. They eagerly accepted the cat milk he fed them, and he was able to determine their age at about four weeks.
