This month’s Military Order of the World Wars speaker will be Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone. He has been an officer for more than 23 years, but has been in Los Alamos less than a year. He will talk about a vision for the police department and issues impacting the community.

Body Found in Hotel Room in White Rock Today

Los Alamos police and firefighters responded about noon today to the scene of a dead man in his room at the Hampton Inn & Suites on N.M. 4 in White Rock. According to officials, relatives discovered the body of the Springfield, VA man and called 911. State Police will conduct Sobriety Checkpoints, Saturation Patrols and Registration, Insurance and Drivers’ License Checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of September.

Los Alamos County Sheriff Marco Lucero released an advisory today alerting the residents of Los Alamos County of a scam that has been reported to his office.

A person(s) is posing as a Los Alamos Sheriff’s Department deputy and calling local residents advising them that they failed to report for jury duty and deputies have a warrant for their arrest.

The caller advises the victim to pay a fine and their warrant will be quashed.

Magistrate Judge Pat Casados Orders Steven C. Porter to Pay Nearly $100K in Cash to Get Out of Jail

In order to get out of jail this time, Steven C. Porter of Pajarito Acres in White Rock must pay nearly $100,000 in cash after being arrested Monday and charged with violating the terms of his release.

Police suspect Porter removed the electronic monitoring bracelet attached to his ankle for some 20 hours between Friday and Saturday. A truck was vandalized about a mile from his home within that time period.

In seperate hearings this morning in Los Alamos Magistrate Court, Judge Pat Casados set bond for an Ojo Caliente couple who are engaged to be married. The couple is charged in a string of local residential burglaries over the past two months.
