Los Alamos Pedestrian Hit By Truck Has Died

Emily Mares-Lang, 73, of Los Alamos died Monday evening after being struck by a truck July 16 near the Los Alamos Post Office.

She had remained in critical condition at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center since being hit while walking in the crosswalk on Main Street.

“The world will miss a beautiful person … that’s for sure,” Ed Lang said today, adding that arrangements are pending.

He said that he and Mares-Lang would have been married 24 years in September.

Today, Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone released crime statistics for the first and second quarter of 2014, which were compiled by the Records Division of the Los Alamos Police Department.

Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property (property crime).

Woman Winds Up In Ditch On Main Hill Road

Los Alamos police responded to the scene of a young woman driving a Lexus sedan down the Main Hill Road about 9 p.m. Sunday in rainy conditions who wound up in a ditch. The woman told witnesses at the scene that she hit her head on her steering wheel but did not lose consciousness. Police closed down the east bound lane for a short period of time while they pulled the woman’s vehicle out of the ditch. Members of the Los Alamos Police Department hosted a ceremony Thursday in Magistrate Court at the Justice Center in which two officers, a public service aide and a detention officer received promotions. Driver Runs Into Woman Walking Near Central Avenue

LAPD News:

Police arrested a male driver after he ran into a pedestrian on Main Street near Central Avenue near noon today.

Commander Preston Ballew told the Los Alamos Daily Post that the driver ran into an elderly woman who was walking at the crosswalk. She has been transported to Los Alamos Medical Center and the extent of her injuries are unknown at this time.

The area is sectioned off with police tape while an investigation into the accident is conducted. Police will release the name of the driver and the charges filed against him soon and that information will be published in the Los Alamos Daily Read More

New Mexico State Police Investigate Vehicular Homicide in Rio Arriba County

NMSP News:

State Police responded to the Espanola hospital Friday regarding a deceased 28-year-old female, later identified as Lisa Espinoza.

Espinoza had suffered blunt force trauma to her head and upper body and was brought to the hospital by Richard Trujillo, 42, Espinoza’s boyfriend.

Through the course of the investigation, it was learned Espinoza and Trujillo were consuming alcohol earlier in the day. They were drinking at their cabin and at the El Cuerno Bar in Cebolla.
