Alert: FBI Seeks Public’s Help in Finding Bank Robber

The FBI is looking for Jay Patrick Mount, 34, of Albuquerque, who is wanted for the Feb. 25 robbery of U.S. Bank, 1418 Carlisle Blvd NE, in Albuquerque.

Anyone with information on Mount’s whereabouts is asked to call the Albuquerque FBI Office at (505) 889-1300 (24 hours) or Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (505) 843-STOP.

Beware of Deer Running into Moving Vehicles

Staff report:

Two deer jumped in front of a 2002 red Subaru Wednesday night at the intersection of Diamond Drive and San Ildefonso Road.

The Los Alamos man driving the Subaru told police he was heading east on Diamond Drive at about 8 p.m. Wednesday and unable to stop when the deer jumped in front of his vehecle.

The driver is a Los Alamos man who was not injured, according to the police report. However, one deer was declared dead at the scene and the other was found lying on the ground breathing but not moving.

Police charged two Los Alamos High School boys at noon, Jan. 16 with aggravated assault and conspiracy.

NIST, DOJ Form Commission to Develop Guidelines for Forensic Labs

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) have announced the establishment of a National Commission on Forensic Science as part of a new initiative to strengthen and enhance the practice of forensic science.

The National Commission on Forensic Science will be composed of approximately 30 members, bringing together forensic science service practitioners, academic researchers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges and other relevant stakeholders to develop policy recommendations for the Attorney General.

Los Alamos Police Chief to Repair Health Issue

Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy wanted to let the community know that he will be away from his office for about four to six weeks.

He will undergo surgery in Albuquerque Tuesday to repair damage to a heart valve caused from an infection for which he was treated several weeks ago.

“Our Emergency Management Coordinator Phil Taylor will be acting chief in my absence,” Torpy said. “I look forward to getting this issue taken care of and returning to work as soon as I’ve recovered.
