KAFB Celebrates 2024 National Police Week May 13-19

Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) is celebrating National Police Week May 13-19 to honor law enforcement officers past and present.

In 1962, May 15 was officially designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day by a proclamation signed by President John F. Kennedy. It also designated the week surrounding that date as Police Week. Since then, tens of thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers have gathered to celebrate in areas all around the world.

This year, Kirtland’s Police Week will feature several events that Team Kirtland personnel can participate and compete in.

SANTA FE – New Mexico State Police launched a new cloud-native computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, upgrading its core method of managing dispatch calls for police officers and first responders in the field following a three-year project to upgrade the critical system. The CAD was developed to be used from a cloud (hosted) environment, which transfers data more efficiently and quickly.

The Public Affairs Office of the FBI Albuquerque Division announced this morning that 10-month-old Eleia Maria Torres has been found alive and the suspect is in custody.

FBI: Older New Mexicans Lost More Than $17 Million In 2023 From Online Frauds And Scams

New Mexicans over the age of 60 lost more than $17 million in online frauds and scams last year, according to a special report from the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

IC3 said 759 of the state’s senior residents lost a total of $17,784,632 in 2023.

The costliest types of scams for Elders in New Mexico were:

  • Confidence/Romance Scams at $4.9 million;
  • Investment Scams at $4.6 million; and
  • Tech Support Scams at $3.1 million.

FBI: Fruitland Man Gets Jail For Brutal Assault On Neighbor

ALBUQUERQUE — A federal judge handed down a 12-month plus one day prison sentence to a Fruitland man for assaulting his neighbor after a long-simmering tension boiled over.

According to publicly available court records, June 27, 2021, Elijah Cudei Etsitty, 27, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, and his family got into a fistfight with their neighbor, Jane Doe’s husband. FBI: Malachi Crockett Gets 6 Years For Role In Violent Crime Spree That Terrorized Albuquerque Residents

ALBUQUERQUE – Malachi Alan Crockett, 19, was sentenced to 6 years in prison for his role in a violent crime spree that terrorized Albuquerque residents in the Spring of 2023.

There is no parole in the federal system.

FBI: Mescalero Man Pleads Guilty To Stabbing Charges

ALBUQUERQUE — A Mescalero man, Lestat Cree Valdez, 21, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges arising from the stabbing of an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe.

According to court records, May 18, 2023, Valdez assaulted Jane Doe, an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache tribe by straddling her and stabbing her repeatedly in the head, face, and chest with a knife, causing Jane Doe to suffer serious bodily injury.

At sentencing, Valdez faces up to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

Three Vehicle Accident With Minor Injuries On Truck Route

A three vehicle crash with minor injuries occurred this morning at the bottom of the truck route. The accident included a bus carrying just one passenger.
