NMSP Investigate OIS Involving Santa Fe Police

SANTA FE — The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) was requested by the Santa Fe Police Department (SFPD) to investigate an officer-involved shooting involving SFPD officers.

Investigators learned that at around 1 p.m. March 10, an SFPD officer received information that Ricky Chavez, 35, who was a known and wanted violent felon, was at a residence on the 2800 block of Don Quixote.  The SFPD officer called for additional officers to assist, including NMSP officers.

NM Corrections Dept. Celebrates Graduation Of 11 Inmates

NMCD News:

LOS LUNAS — The New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) announces the graduation of nine adult education graduates and two associate degree graduates at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility (CNMCF).

The two associate degrees were received from Mesalands Community College and the International Christian College and Seminary. 

NMCD’s Reentry Division projects the final FY24 graduation totals will exceed those of FY23, where the department proudly had the highest number of High School Equivalency (HSE) completers of any adult education program in the state.

FBI: Taos Compound Defendants Sentenced

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced March 6 that Jany Leveille, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, his sisters Hujrah Wahhaj and Subhanah Wahhaj and Subhanah’s husband, Lucas Morton, appeared before a federal judge for sentencing.

Siraj, Hujrah and Subhanah Wahhaj, and Lucas Morton were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

New Mexico Supreme Court Reinstates Child Pornography Convictions On David Rael Of Los Alamos

SANTA FE – The state Supreme Court today reinstated a Los Alamos man’s convictions for possession, distribution and manufacturing of child pornography.

In a unanimous opinion, the state’s highest court reversed the Court of Appeals and clarified the legal elements that must be proven for the crime of manufacturing child pornography.

David Rael was sentenced in 2017 to nine years in prison for convictions of three counts of manufacturing child pornography and one count each of distribution and possession of child pornography.
