Letter To The Editor: Why I Support Rep. Garcia Richard

By MATTHEW WILLIAMS
Los Alamos

I would like to start my endorsement by stating that I am not a member of any political party, I am not even Independent, I am no party. Second, I want to be clear that my statements in no way represent any endorsement by the School Board or Los Alamos Public Schools.

Over the last three and a half years as a School Board member I have had a considerable amount of interaction with our State Representative, Stephanie Garcia Richard. I have always found her to be very attentive and responsive to the needs of our School District. I have had many interactions with

Letter To The Editor: Join Me In Voting ‘For’ Question 1

By JOANN JOHNSON
Los Alamos

I have lived in Los Alamos for more than 50 years. I have been actively engaged in community activities during that time. Nine years as Chairman of the Republican Party of Los Alamos, eight years as County Assessor, seven years on the Parks and Recreation Board and two terms on the LARSO Board of Directors, as well as many youth activities when my children were growing up.

I have seen many sheriffs come and go. Most were content to serve in the capacity assigned to our sheriff. A few have wanted to expand the duties of the sheriff. The right for Los Alamos to decide whether to Read More

Letter To The Editor: Stephanie Garcia Richard Swings And Misses On Education Vote

By ANTOINETTE B. MANN
Los Alamos

Before the recent special session, our state representative, Stephanie Garcia Richard, pledged that she would not balance the budget on the backs of our schools, and she urged legislators to do everything they could to protect education funding. Then she turned around and voted to take $25 million from school district savings accounts. Los Alamos Public Schools alone would have lost over $265,000.

How can this vote possibly be in the best interest of Los Alamos schools? She had a chance to keep her word and protect school savings, and she whiffed!  Read More

On a very hot June 18, during the Valles Caldera Marathon, a mother bear with her two cubs nearby, attacked marathoner Karen Williams who ran too close to one of her cubs. The injuries required Williams to be transported to UNMH for treatment.

Reasonable people would recognize that in this encounter the mama bear was just doing her thing. She was Read More

Evan McMullin: Why I’m Running For President

By EVAN MCMULLIN
Former CIA Agent

I am running for president because I believe that settling for the lesser of two evils is still evil. Just a few months ago, I was still one of millions of voters who refused to accept the depressing choice between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, neither of whom is fit to serve as commander-and-chief. Like all those others, I was waiting for a true leader to stand up and give Americans a better choice. No one did.

As the deadlines for ballot access approached, Read More
