 NMED Urges Visitors To Use Caution As Harmful Algae Detected In Quemado, Snow And Hopewell Lakes

NMED News: 

CATRON AND RIO ARRIBA counties — The New Mexico Environment Department is warning visitors to use caution at Quemado Lake, Snow Lake, and Hopewell Lake due to the formation of harmful algae blooms.

Harmful algae blooms, or HABs, occur when certain types of algae grow excessively in water, posing potential health risks to people and animals. HABs can appear blue, bright green, brown or red and may resemble scum or floating grass clippings on the water’s surface. These blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to humans and animals.

UPDATE: Road is cleared and traffic is moving smoothly. The Los Alamos Police Department has closed one lane on the Main Hill  Road this morning for an undisclosed amount of time due to a rockslide. Central Avenue Between 15th & 20th Streets To Be Closed Tuesday For Gas Leak Repair Project

COUNTY News:

The block of Central Avenue between 15th Street and 20th Street will be closed to through traffic 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday while crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) repair a gas leak.

On eastbound Central Avenue approaching 20th Street, all traffic will detour onto 20th Street. Westbound through-traffic on Central Avenue will detour onto 15th Street.

While DPU’s Gas, Water & Sewer Division crews have not yet excavated to expose the pipeline that is leaking, they do not anticipate needing to turn gas service off for customers while repairing the Read More
