SFNF & USDA Call Laguna Wildfire 100 Percent Contained

SFNF News:

SANTA FE — A recent fixed wing flight with an infrared (IR) camera detected no heat within the Laguna Wildfire perimeter.

USDA Forest Service Fire Managers from the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) have called the Laguna Wildfire 100 percent contained.

This announcement means the wildfire poses no risk of spreading.

There are no closures, but the public is urged to exercise caution when traveling within this burned area.

Hazards exist, including:

  • Dead standing trees; and
  • Potential for flash flooding even in areas not directly affected by the wildfire.

FBI: Sanostee Man Sentenced For Violent Assault

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — A Sanostee man was sentenced to 72 months in prison for a violent assault that left a woman seriously injured.

There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, between Dec. 2 and Dec. 3, 2023, Nathan Mescale, 36, assaulted Jane Doe and the assault resulted in serious bodily injury.

Upon his release from prison, Mescale will be subject to three years of supervised release.

ALBUQUERQUE — Two Zuni men were sentenced to 33 months in prison each for a violent armed assault involving four victims.

There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, April 8, 2023, Kamron Kallestewa, 25, and Kaden Panteah, 20, both enrolled members of the Zuni Pueblo, assaulted four individuals at a residence on the Pueblo using firearms. ALBUQUERQUE — A Pinedale man was sentenced to 37 months in prison for slashing a man’s throat during a confrontation. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, Feb. 17, 2025, Laberto Curley, 25, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, used a knife to slash John Doe’s throat during a physical altercation, resulting in serious bodily injury.
