Forest Service Issues Update On Rincon Prescribed Fire

Santa Fe Forest Service News:

SANTA FE—The Rincon prescribed fire involves 2,227 acres of hazardous fuels located on French Mesa off Forest Road 8 on the Coyote Ranger District. An Incident Commander (IC) is overseeing the fire until declared out. A fire is declared out when there is no visible smoke or heat detected.

Parks Crew To Remove Hazardous Trees At Ice Rink Oct. 26

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Parks and Open Space Division will close the County Ice Rink parking lot 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 to remove two unsafe trees from the property.

The tree removal is part of the temporary chiller repair that is ongoing to ensure optimal ice temperatures throughout the coming winter skating season, until permanent repairs can be made.

The fishing for kokanee salmon during the early part of the snagging season, which opened Oct. 1, has been slow. This is not unusual and the fishing should pick up later this season. One option while the snagging is slow is to fish for trout using conventional angling methods near where the salmon are running.
