Open Gym Programs Paused For Thanksgiving Break Week

COUNTY News:

Starting Monday, Nov. 20, Los Alamos County Community Services Open Gym Programs will not be held at Los Alamos Public School or County facilities during Thanksgiving Break Week.

These programs will resume Monday, Nov. 27.

November is National Diabetes Month and today (Nov. 14) is World Diabetes Day.

The day was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization to bring awareness to the growing problem of diabetes. 

The theme for the day is Access to Diabetes Care. 

Statistics indicate that 1 in 10 adults worldwide have diabetes and over 90 percent of those have type 2 diabetes. This is a condition that can be modified through lifestyle changes and healthy habits.

Veterans Treated To Museums & Historic Sites All Weekend!

NMDCA News:

Any New Mexico resident providing satisfactory proof of current or past armed service will be admitted free to each of NMDCA’s 15 museums and historic sites on Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 10, 11 and 12. This program also covers the resident’s spouse and children.

Additionally, New Mexico Museum of Space History and New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum extend this program to cover all veterans, regardless of New Mexico residency. The New Mexico Museum of Space History also extends this program to National Guard personnel and first responders.

Los Alamos 2023 Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot Nov. 19

Sunday Nov. 19 is the day for the Annual Los Alamos Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot.

The location is the Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) on North Mesa. Participants are asked to come to the LAMS cafeteria at 1:30 p.m. to sign in. Once you’ve registered, you can donate to the cause: cash or checks made out to “CROP Walk” are always welcome. After registering, grab a t-shirt if you want and head out to the starting line across the parking lot.

When the start is called at 2 p.m., runners will lead off. The course for runners and walkers is downhill along San Ildefonso Road, then left to the stables. Read More

A fun, community-building Thanksgiving tradition returns for its 15th edition in Santa Fe.

Nov. 11, approximately 175 bicycle riders of all ability levels will participate in Cranksgiving, the annual ride that is part scavenger hunt, part race and all benefit for the Food Depot. Uptick Of Illegal Activity On Santa Fe National Forest Land

SANTA FE — A recent uptick in illegal activities, such as unauthorized trail building and obstruction of official trails, has been occurring around Arroyo Hondo where there has been recent work establishing new system trails. Law enforcement will be monitoring these activities and issuing citations for continued infractions.
