Sunday, Nov. 23, the Annual CROP Walk/Turkey Trot began at Los Alamos Middle School. Approximately 100 people participated in this event. 

The top 26 finishers in the 2.57-mile race were as follows:

Valles Caldera Winter Prescribed Burns Likely Tuesday

VCNP News:

JEMEZ SPRINGS – The National Park Service is set to begin winter pile burning operations within the San Antonio Mountain project area of Valles Caldera National Preserve beginning on or shortly after Tuesday, Dec. 2.

If conditions are not favorable to begin burning in San Antonio, the team will switch to burning piles on either South Mountain or Cerro Piñon. The area around the burn activities will be closed to public access until operations are completed.

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, we only held one duplicate game, on Monday afternoon.

There was just a little stocking done last week in Northern New Mexico due to the Thanksgiving holiday. In the winter, most of the stocking of catchable-size rainbow trout is in Southern New Mexico.

Alcove House At Bandelier Reopens To Public

BANDELIER News:

Trails & maintenance crews, archeologists, law enforcement, and youth corps at Bandelier National Monument have completed the Alcove House ladder replacement project.

These individuals spent countless hours strategizing, constructing, and replacing all four wooden ladders.

The Alcove House is now open to the public.

The Los Alamos County Ice Rink, which has been on a delayed opening due to mechanical issues, opens for public skating at 11:30 this morning.

Built in 1936, the Ice Rink is the only refrigerated, NHL regulation, outdoor Ice Rink in New Mexico. The rink offers public skating, hockey, and skating lessons through February.

Farmington Field Office Plans Pile Burn Near Navajo Lake

BLM News:

FARMINGTON — Beginning now through this winter, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Farmington Field Office is planning to burn piles on a two-acre unit, weather permitting.

The unit is near Highway 511 between mile markers 17-20, approximately 5 miles north/northwest of Navajo Lake State Park. This project is being conducted in coordination with the New Mexico State Land Office.
