Interior Department Begins Nationwide Review Of Rock Climbing And Wilderness Study Area Management Policies

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of the Interior (DOI) has announced a 60-day public comment period on proposed recreational climbing guidance and potential updates to wilderness study area management policies for lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service.

Wilmot Top Predictor In Yesterday’s ACRR Pace Race

Zeke Wilmot was the best predictor in the weekly pace race held in the Quemazon Complex.  He was 14 seconds off his predicted time. Other accurate predictors were 7-month-old Liliana Smeltzer with a 15 second difference; 7-year-old Ximena Stanier recording 36 seconds off; Lynn Bjorklund having a 46 second differential; and Sana Sevanto had a 48 second difference as well as the best female finisher in the 3-mile distance at 36:42.

On the 1-mile course Eric Davis was first at 9:30 and the best female was 3-year-old Iris Geimer recording a 12:22.

Stephen M. Bush Memorial Shooting Range Closed For Repairs, Maintenance June 11 & 12

Clayton —The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will close the Stephen M. Bush Memorial Shooting Range in Clayton, NM, at sunrise on June 11, and will reopen at sunrise June 13. The range will be closed to allow contractors to perform repairs and maintenance safely.

Public access to the range will be completely restricted on these days.

Other closures may occur as needed for repairs. Please refer to the range open or closed sign when entering the property. The public can also inquire with Cody Johnston, shooting program coordinator, at 505.412.7785 about range status.

Los Alamos Youth Roller Hockey is starting Wednesday, June 10, and will continue 4-6 p.m., every Wednesday, at Los Alamos County Ice Rink until the start of winter ice skating and hockey season.

The State Game and Fish Department stocked a total of 35,445 rainbow trout weighing 17,733 pounds. Most of the stocking will now be in Northern New Mexico. 

Streamflow in the Rio Grande increased slightly and is still below average to extremely below average in Northern New Mexico. At Taos Junction Bridge, the streamflow Sunday, May 16, was 212 cubic-feet-per-second. The streamflow at Cerro near the Colorado border was 81.4 cubic-feet-per-second.
