Bandelier Reunion Celebrates 100 Years In Frijoles Canyon

Bandelier National Monument is hosting the 100th Anniversary Reunion July 23 on the grounds of Bandelier. The Friends of Bandelier are supporting the event.

This reunion is open to current and previous staff, volunteers, partners, members of the Friends of Bandelier, and to anyone that has a close and personal connection to the Monument. Anyone from northern New Mexico who visits the Monument is welcome to sign up.

Trail Expert Craig Martin Leads Bandelier Hike July 16

Craig Martin will lead a hike to Upper Crossing Saturday, July 16. The four-mile hike includes 400 feet of elevation gain, incredible views of Frijoles Canyon, a walk through an old growth Ponderosa Pine Forest, beautiful wildflowers, and a chance to glimpse some unusual plants near the end of the trail.

This hike, organized by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), is one of many events to help people get outside and enjoy nature.

Volunteers Needed: YMCA 5K Fun Run & Walk July 4

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA in Los Alamos needs volunteers to help with its annual Firecracker 5K Fun Run this Monday, July 4.

Anyone interested in helping with traffic control, handing out t-shirts, or helping with race timing, please volunteer at The Family YMCA at 1450 Iris St. in Los Alamos.

Positions and time needs:

  • 5K Race begins at 8 a.m., volunteers per position needed at the following times:
  • 6 a.m. – Event set-up;
  • 6:30-7:45 a.m. – Registration sign up;
  • 7:30-9 a.m. – Traffic control race guides (24 needed); and
  • 9:30 a.m.: Clean up, pack up.

SFNF Holding Public Meetings On Geothermal Energy Development Draft EA

SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest today announced that the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on the potential effects of geothermal energy development on land within Forest boundaries is available on the Forest website here.

The Forest will hold three public meetings to provide a brief overview of the proposed project and the analysis of effects. The Family YMCA’s Ed Griggs Memorial Golf Tournament drew 24 teams of 94 players Saturday, June 11, to the Los Alamos Golf Course. A foster mother addressed the crowd and expressed her appreciation of Y scholarships. The annual event netted $13,615 for Y program scholarships.

Seventeenth Annual Knights Of Columbus Scholarship Golf Tournament

Over seventeen years the annual Knights of Columbus Scholarship Golf Tournament has attracted sponsors and golfers from Los Alamos and around Northern New Mexico.

Funds raised from the event provide scholarships to graduating Los Alamos High School seniors. All graduating LAHS students can apply for the scholarship.
