Craig Martin Guides Hike To Bandelier’s Upper Crossing

Saturday, July 16, local trails expert Craig Martin will lead a hike to Upper Crossing. The four-mile hike includes 400 feet of elevation gain, incredible views of Frijoles Canyon, a walk through an old growth Ponderosa Pine Forest, beautiful wildflowers, and a chance to glimpse some unusual plants near the end of the trail. This hike, organized by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is one of many events to help people get outside and enjoy nature.

Cowboy Shoot At Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club Pistol Pits Saturday July 16

SPORTS News:

There will be a Cowboy Action Shoot this Saturday, July 16, at the Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club Pistol Pits. This Saturday’s match starts at 8 a.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m. This SASS ruled event occurs every third Saturday through November.

The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, “Old West” style. Clothing attire and accoutrements, as well as the guns used, that reflects this period of the American West is required/encouraged to shoot in these events. The eighth edition contains 410 pages; 68 hike descriptions that, counting all the options and variations provided, cover more than 125 individual day hikes, 71 maps and 95 photographs; most of which are new to this edition.

Candia Is Top Predictor In Weekly Pace Race

Roxana Candia was the top predictor in the weekly pace race held on American Springs Road in the Jemez with a 1 second error off her prediction. 
 
Other accurate predictors were Marjorie Keilers at 6 seconds off, Laura Woodroffe with a 9 second differential as well as the best finisher on the 3 mile course at 22:38, Zachary Medin at 10 seconds off and the first male on the 3 mile course with a time of 23:05, and Esther Wermer recording a 18 second difference.

Old results from The Family YMCA’s Ed Griggs Memorial Golf Tournament, held Saturday, June 11, were inadvertently announced and are corrected here. The event drew 24 teams of 94 players on Saturday, June 11, to the Los Alamos Golf Course and netted $13,615 for Y program scholarships.
