National Public Lands Day Volunteers Needed

SANTA FE – Celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) Sept. 26 by helping the Santa Fe National Forest reroute a section of the popular Winsor Trail.
The nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands, NPLD is a great opportunity to educate the public about the environment and natural resources, and the need for shared stewardship of public lands.

Child-Led Green Hour Hikes Start Wednesday

Weekly Green Hour Hikes begin at 9 a.m., Wednesday at Quemazon Trail.
These child-led hikes organized by Pajarito Environmental Education Center meet at a different trailhead each week. Babies carried in arms or worn are welcome.
All participants are asked to be prepared for travelling outdoors and to bring water, snacks, and sunscreen. This group was created to encourage children to enjoy being outside. It is not the mileage, but the quality time outside that matters.

Gallinas Canyon Road Reopens In Time For Holiday
SFNF News:
SANTA FE – Crews have completed the repair work on Forest Road (FR) 263 in Gallinas Canyon on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in time for the Labor Day Holiday.
FR 263, which was closed to the public after severe damage from monsoonal flooding in 2013, is now open to traffic in time for the three-day Labor Day holiday weekend. Prior to reopening FR 263, forest personnel performed a hazard tree inspection at developed recreation sites along FR 263 to ensure public health and safety.
