LAHS Girls Tennis Team Meeting For Interested Players

SPORTS News:

A brief meeting is scheduled at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater for girls in grades 8th-12th interested in participating in tennis this season.

No prior tennis experience is necessary.

Valles Caldera Elk Hunt Lottery Opens

JEMEZ SPRINGS – Beginning this week and running until midnight March 18, public land hunters may enter the Valles Caldera Trust’s lottery for a chance to hunt for Rocky Mountain elk this fall on the Valles Caldera National Preserve. The Valles Caldera is known nationally for its large elk herds and quality hunting experience.

The “Not Forgotten Outreach” Appreciation Ski Weekend for surviving families, Veterans, Active Military and their families is set for two weekends and two locations:

  • Jan. 23, 24 and 25 at Taos Ski Valley; and
  • Feb. 20, 21 and 22 at Angel Fire.

The event provides alpine skiing and snowboarding for the Military Family and includes:

Bandelier’s Frijoles Canyon Closed Thursday

BANDELIER NEWS:

Bandelier National Monument has announced that Frijoles Canyon will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1.

Bandelier had planned to have Frijoles Canyon open Thursday, but with the storm forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday, and no staff available to clear roads and trails, for visitor safety the canyon will be CLOSED Thursday.

There may be a delayed opening for Frijoles Canyon Friday if additional heavy snow occurs over night.

Bandelier Proposes Entrance Fee Increases

Beginning in mid-January 2015, Bandelier National Monument will be seeking public comment on proposed changes in their fee schedule. 

In the summer of 2014, National Park Service (NPS) areas that charge fees were authorized to consider increases in entry fees, which could be implemented as early as sometime in 2015. These changes align with the NPS’ new standard entrance-fee schedule
