YMCA Offers Endurance Training For Cyclists

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA is offering an Endurance Training for Cyclists Class. Each class will have a two-hour riding component and a one-half hour of core conditioning. A heart rate monitor is required the first day of class. In addition, the following topics will be discussed: 

  • Proper bike fit
  • Clothing and equipment
  • Nutrition and hydration
  • Aches and pains-preventing them and what to do if you have them
  • Weekly training recommendations and how to design your own training plan

On Monday, Jan. 20, visitors may enjoy Bandelier as well as other national parks and monuments throughout the United States free of charge. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the first of nine days throughout 2014 when all National Park Service sites will open their gates to visitors without charging entrance fees.

National Park Service entrance fee-free dates in 2014:

  • Jan. 20: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Feb. 15-17: Presidents Day weekend
  • April 15-17: The first weekend of National Park Week

Here’s a chance to try cross country (X-C) skiing. Join the Los Alamos Mountaineers for a trip to the Enchanted Forest X-C Ski Area Sunday Jan. 12.

The Enchanted Forest has rentals, lessons, and a trail pass for $45. For skiers with their own equipment, a trail pass is $18.

The annual Valentine’s Dessert Dances at Fuller Lodge will take place as follows:  

  • The Mother/Son Event is Wednesday, Feb. 5;
  • The Daddy/Daughter Event is Thursday, Feb. 6; and
  • The Family Dance is Wednesday Feb. 12.
