Registration Open For 7th Annual Joel Williams Memorial Tennis Tournament Aug. 15-18 At Urban Park Courts

Tennis season is here, and the Los Alamos Tennis Club (LATC) has announced registration is open for the 7th annual Joel M. Williams Tennis Tournament!

The tournament is Aug. 15-18 at the Urban Park courts and will offer men’s and women’s singles,  doubles and mixed doubles matches for tennis players of all levels.

There will be a competitive Open division for past collegiate and high-level players, and A and B divisions for recreational players. Those who want to play doubles but don’t have a partner will be paired by the tournament organizers. All players will be able to enjoy a BBQ lunch Read More

Hey, youth mountain bike riders, this article is for you (and your parents)! It’s time to hit the trails and get ready for the 2024 Los Alamos Mountain Bike Team season (Aug. 1 through Nov. 1).

The Los Alamos Mountain Bike (MTB) Team trains and competes as a cross-country mountain biking team. Cross-country is a specific form of cycling different from road riding, downhill racing, BMX, cyclo-cross, or track racing. We are entering the “dog days” of summer. Water in our lakes and reservoirs is warm and trout have retreated from the shallows into deeper water.

Streamflows have dropped and water temperatures are rising. It is best to limit fishing to early mornings, evening and even at night. Daytime water temperatures are simply too warm for trout. Even if you practice catch-and-release  the stress of being caught and released is often too much for the already heat-stressed trout.

Golf Course Down To 8 Holes Due To Renovation Project

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Community Services Department announced that beginning Friday, Aug. 2, hole #16 will be closed and the Los Alamos County Golf Course will be an 8-hole course, due to the renovation project.

Additionally, the front 9 is still closed due to grass grow-in and inconsistent watering.

By mid-week of the week of Aug. 4, holes 17 and 18 will close. There will only be holes 10 thru 15 open, making the Golf Course a 5-holes course.

Los Amigos de Valles Caldera will hold two more volunteer days: Aug. 10 and Sept. 14, and thanks those who assisted at the previous two volunteer days.

Valles Caldera National Preserve needs timber barrier logs constructed to place along roads to protect vegetation and remind visitors to only travel along authorized routes. Los Amigos de Valles Caldera built these during Public Lands Day in 2023.
