Fr. Glenn: Goal!

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

(Sigh). Trouble again in Israel—always quite worrisome. Back and forth will weapons be lobbed to the inevitable destruction and death of many. Often smaller conflicts blaze up into much larger conflagrations; let us pray that that doesn’t occur. For instance, who would have thought at that time that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand by a Serbian nationalist would have been the spark to set all Europe ablaze as World War I?

Now, this Monday (October 9) is Columbus Day—celebrated by many as the discovery and beginning of the settlement of the New Word, and disdained by Read More

In one of the most famous “about-faces” of all times, the apostle Paul, who ruthlessly persecuted and murdered Christians, received a severe wakeup call from God. Convinced of the error of his ways, he then set as his life’s mission the proclamation – in word AND actions – of the love of God in the death and resurrection of Christ. He was largely responsible for the tremendous growth Read More

Fr. Glenn: My Frailties Remember Not

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

Do you ever lay in bed—not ready to rise, but just kind of snoozing til the rude ol’ alarm (curséd may it be) goes off. In-between awake and asleep, the thoughts just wandering—ideas, past events, deeds done well … and those not so well. Some people claim that they have no regrets; well, lucky you. I know that I have plenty—duties neglected, people treated badly, (fill in your own blank here). Yes, one muses on joys and successes, but also surfacing are memories of times that I did not behave quite as well as I should have and, worse, as I knew I should have. It’d be difficult to believe Read More

Fr. Glenn: Looking For Work

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

I was watching a police show the other day in which robbers were targeting persons over 60 years old. The police commander’s urgent order was: “We have to find these punks before they prey on more of the elderly!”

Dang—so I’ve hit the “elderly” category?! Sure doesn’t feel like it … other than creaky joints, and worsening eyesight and hearing, and memory, and …). Next thing you know I’ll be getting “senior discounts”! Oh, wait! … I already get those.

Yes, time inexorably sneaks up on us. No matter how many times our elders warned us of how time flies, we don’t believe it ‘til we “get Read More
