Los Alamos High School Volleyball Gears Up

LAHS News:

Volleyball Open Gym will be held 5:15-7:15 p.m. at Griffith Gym during the week.

Tryout paperwork may be submitted 5:15–5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7.

 Los Alamos High School Girls’ Volleyball Program tryouts for the Fall 2013 Season will be 5-8 p.m., Aug. 12 in Griffith Gym.

Tryouts are open to any girl entering grades 9-12 and parents are welcome to stay and watch. All necessary paperwork will be required prior to participation and may be turned in during open gym Aug. 7 or on the first day of tryouts Aug. 12.

Aquatomics Swimmers Win State Titles

With Head Coach John Murphy at the helm, Los Alamos Aquatomics swimmers brought home several State Championship titles from both the 11 & Over Long Course State Championships July 25-28 in Las Cruces and the 10 & Under State Championships July 20-21 in Farmington.

Alex Jaegers earned three State Titles, with first place finishes in the 50 Free, 100 Free and 400 Free events. Jaegers also earned the Second Place High Point Award for boys 13-14 for his overall meet performance.

Aquatomics Swimmers Head to Western Zone

Two Los Alamos Aquatomics swimmers have been selected to represent New Mexico Swimming at the USA Swimming Western Zone Age-Group Championships Aug. 7-10 in Roseville, Calif.

Swimmers from California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana will compete.

Los Alamos Tennis Club Tournament Results

LATC News:

The Los Alamos Tennis Club held its annual tournament last weekend and at least 40 players participated in the event.

The results of the event are as follows:

  • John Park beat Bob Tonelli 6-1, 6-1 in the men’s A singles final. Park is a prior champion from a few years ago.
  • Gilbert Ratliff and John Charles won over students Forrest White and George Margevicius in the A men’s doubles final 6-4, 6-3.
  • In the B doubles, sisters Gillian and Sidra Hsieh Ratliff edged Joel Williams and Gordon Medford 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
  • Jeena Kim beat Debi Croney in the women’s singles final 6-2, 6-1.

Kratzer is Top Predictor in Weekly Pace Race

David Kratzer was only two seconds off his predicted time in the weekly pace race held at Pinon Park in White Rock.

The Watermelon Run attracted more than 30 participants including the Triatomics Youth Group and all ran a fast three-mile course.

Other accurate predictors included Ted Romero who was four seconds off and also was the top finisher in the three mile run with a time of 19:38. Roxana Candia had a six second differential followed by Tom Sandford at 12 seconds off.

Jacob Thompson was the fastest finisher on the one mile course at 6:27 and Reynie Benelli was the best

Los Alamos Triathlon Weekend Aug. 17-18

COUNTY News:

Join the Los Alamos County Recreation Division Aug. 17, for the oldest continuously running triathlon, the 39th Annual Los Alamos Triathlon.

The race consists of a 20K bike with challenging climbs and great scenery. Then into the pool (feet first) for a 400 meter swim; and finish with a 5K run from the Aquatic Center to the First Baptist Church on Diamond Drive and back.

Seeking Players for Los Alamos Jr. Golf Booster Fundraiser

 The Los Alamos Jr. Golf Booster Fundraiser is set for 1 p.m. Shotgun Sat., Aug. 10 .

Entry: $50 includes prizes and dinner after the round. All entries will go entirely to the Jr. Golf Association. It will help offset the cost of the LAHS Golf Team and Los Alamos Jr. Golf Programs. (Entry does not include green fees or cart.)
