WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thursday,  U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., spoke before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in support of the nomination of New Mexico native Michael Connor to serve as Deputy Secretary of the Interior Department.

A Las Cruces native and NMSU graduate with degrees in engineering and law, Connor currently serves as Commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Frijoles Canyon Re-Opens After Flooding

Bandelier News:

Frijoles Canyon in Bandelier National Monument reopened to the public Thursday. Bandelier staff began cleanup over the weekend and continued early this week to clear debris off the Main Loop Trail and the visitor parking lot.

The public should expect a few changes in visitor services due to flooding:

  • Bandelier National Monument is not charging entrance fees until further notice
  • The public can only access Frijoles Canyon via a shuttle service provided by Atomic City Transit. Visitors can board the free shuttle

New Mexico Corrections Organizes Water Drive

NMCD News:

The New Mexico Corrections Department is collecting bottled water to provide to residents affected by last week’s floods. Water donations will be accepted through Friday.

Residents can drop off water at any Probation and Parole Office in the state. Inmates in NMCD custody will be utilized to transfer the water from the offices to the affected towns and cities. During this difficult time, NMCD wants to do its part to help these communities rebuild.
