Christmas Tree Cutting Permits Go On Sale Monday

SFNF News:

Santa Fe National Forest offices and various vendors in Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Pecos and Las Vegas will sell personal-use Christmas tree permits for $10 beginning Monday, Nov. 19 through Dec. 24. Christmas tree cutting also begins Nov. 19.

Anyone planning to cut their tree Thanksgiving Day must purchase a permit ahead of time because all Forest Service offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

State Transportation Commission Meeting in Carlsbad

Santa Fe – The StateTransportation Commission will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Pecos River Conference Center, 1711 Muscatel Ave. in Carlsbad.

Agenda items for the meeting include:

  • A request for additional $1,456,029 for the Transit and Rail budget
  • Additions and deletions from the State Highway System
  • Introduction of our new commissioner Robert Wallach who is representing District 2 in southeastern New Mexico

Valles Caldera Trust Identifies Visitor Center Site / Final Environmental Impact Statement Released

Jemez Springs The Valles Caldera Trust (Trust) has released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the proposed Public Access and Use Plan (PAUP.)

The plan aims to expand visitor access while preserving the natural and cultural resources of the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

In June of this year, the Trust opened a 60-day public comment period on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) that featured six public access alternatives.

A total of 125 written comments from agencies, pueblos, organizations and individuals were submitted.

Santa Fe—A long-awaited maintenance project to refinish or replace some of the floors in the entryway of the 400-year-old Palace of the Governors will temporarily inconvenience visitors accustomed to entering themuseum complex through its doors.
