Catch Of The Week: That Streaming Renewal Email? Don’t Click It

Summer is almost here, and apparently so are streaming subscription phishing emails. This week’s catch landed in my inbox trying to look very official, very urgent… and very fake.

The email claimed to be from PrimeStream, clearly spoofing Amazon Prime. It had the branding, the button, the membership ID, the whole setup. It said payment had failed and subscription expired on May 25 and demanded a click to “Update Payment Details” RIGHT NOW. Today. No time to think.

Rural Students In Rio Arriba County Get Access To Broadband Internet

More than 170 rural students in the Española Public Schools now have access to high-speed internet following the completion of a state-funded broadband project in Rio Arriba County. 

The Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) awarded Ethos Broadband, an internet service provider headquartered in Albuquerque, a $1.3 million Student Connect grant to build broadband infrastructure to connect 173 rural students in the school district.

If you have been using or thinking about using Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant, this one is for you. Researchers at Sophos just published findings on a fake Claude website that has been quietly handing out malware to anyone who clicks “download.” Yikes!

The fake site, “claude-pro[.]com”, looks a little like the real thing. Same general color palette, similar fonts. But it is stripped down and mostly non-functional, which should be a red flag for users that something is fishy.
