With the announcement that Los Alamos National Laboratory will remain closed Thursday due to weather conditions, Atomic City Transit will not offer peak bus service tomorrow – but bus routes will be back up and running otherwise.

In light of today’s heavy snowfall, Los Alamos County Manager Harry Burgess announced this evening that non-essential County facilities will remain closed Wednesday in order to provide snow clearing crews the opportunity to continue to address main, collector and residential streets throughout the County.

County Update: Road Conditions Remain Hazardous

COUNTY Traffic Alert Update:

Pajarito Mountain is OPEN; however, the Traffic Division staff urges residents who decide to travel on Camp May Road to be advised of nearly-impassable road conditions. 

The first section of Camp May Road is slightly more than one lane in width, which means passing oncoming traffic will be difficult.

For those who decide to head to Pajarito today, driving a vehicle with high clearance, four wheel drive and tire chains is advisable.

County Traffic Alert: Major Snowfall Overnight Severely Impacts Roads … DO NOT Attempt Travel This Morning!

COUNTY TRAFFIC ALERT:

Major snowfall overnight has severely impacted roads within the County.

Crews are responding but the amount of snow to clear will take extra time even for main roadways.

Camp May Road to Pajarito Mountain is NOT OPEN at this time. Crews are coordinating with the ski hill staff on their opening time today and will update residents.

County Requests Patience, Help With Snow Clearing Activities; Bike Lanes Now Closed To Aid Snow Removal

COUNTY News:

With the frequency of snow storms and amount of snow anticipated to exceed over at least 12 inches heading into New Years’ Eve and New Year’s Day, officials with the Public Works department cautioned residents today to manage expectations for snow removal for the next few days.

Beginning this afternoon and in anticipation of tonight’s approaching storm, crews will not be able to remove snow from the bike lanes on Diamond and Canyon.

“We need to wait until the snow can be hauled away from the lanes in order to open up the streets and sidewalks,” Public Works Director Philo Shelton said. Read More

Atomic City Transit, in partnership with the Los Alamos County DWI Council, is once again offering free Dial-a-Ride service for transport to and from New Year’s Eve parties.

Service will begin at 6 p.m. and the last drop-off will be at 1 a.m.

Traffic Alert: Main Hill Road Temporarily Closed

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department has announced that the Main Hill Road is temporarily closed due to snow.

Both west and eastbound lanes will be closed until the roadway has been cleared.

 N.M. 501, the Truck Route, is open at this time.

LAPD issues the following reminders to motorists driving in winter conditions:

  • Maintain a safe following distance;
  • Slow down;
  • Watch for black ice; and
  • Brake slowly.
