NWS News:

The National Weather Service reports that a storm system will bring winter weather impacts to portions of New Mexico starting tonight and lasting into Saturday.

Ice accumulations may cause significant travel impacts and isolated power outages, especially across east-central and southeast New Mexico. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for portions of New Mexico as a result.

NIJ Examines Ways To Improve Officer Safety In Vehicles And On Roadways

WASHINGTON, D.C. The Office of Justice Programs’ National Institute of Justice has published an article examining the results of two projects; one that studied the circumstances behind law enforcement line-of-duty deaths in vehicle crashes and roadside incidents and a second report that conducted an evaluation of an enhanced vehicle safety program.
 
The research is the result of a ten-year collaboration between NIJ and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which seeks ways to improve officer safety on the roadways.

New Mexico State Police will conduct sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of December.

Asphalt Repair Work On Iris Moved To Wednesday

Update: Due to unforeseen circumstances with the asphalt plant, the repair on Iris Street is re-scheduled for Wednesday.

COUNTY News:

Crews with the Los Alamos County Public Works Department will repair asphalt displaced during recent utility work on Iris Street.

Work is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Note: Parking on Iris Street is prohibited until work is complete.

Full access to Iris Street will be restored by late afternoon Tuesday.

Traffic accidents and long lines of cars alternating between shuffling forward and braking are a common occurrence at the intersection of East Jemez Road and N.M. 4.
 
The NNSA Los Alamos Field Office is addressing these issues as well as improving transportation of transuranic waste to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad.
 
A proposed option is currently being pursued by the field office.

Traffic Alert: Utility Work On Iris Street Monday

Traffic Alert:

Natural gas crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities will repair a gas line on Iris Street, just west of the 9th Street intersection behind the Los Alamos County Municipal Building.

Work is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and wrap up by 4 p.m. Monday.

Crews will excavate a section of road to repair the gas line on the south side of Iris behind the Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave.

RTD Blue Buses Thanksgiving Closures

RTD News:
 
The North Central Regional Transit District’s RTD “Blue Buses” will not be in operation Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23 in recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday. However, the 255 Mountain Trail to Ski Santa Fe WILL operate both days.
 
The RTD Mountain Trail will transition to its Winter Schedule beginning Thanksgiving Day to coincide with the season open at Ski Santa Fe.
 
The Mountain Trail bus provides seven roundtrips on weekends and three roundtrips, Monday through Friday from stops around downtown Santa Fe to the Santa Fe National Forest
