Sydney’s Corner: Foods of Turkey

Introduction: Teralene Foxx. Photos by Jason Frazier

Over the past year, Sydney, our grandaughter, traveling the world with her parents has blogged about different foods: Foods of the Netherlands, Foods of  Poland, and now foods of Turkey. She was eight when then began their travels and turned nine in September. What amazes me is that this 8/9 year old is willing to try all these different foods. When they were in Bulgaria, she tried frog legs, which she proclaimed “They were really good.” Read More

There is a beautiful little town in Sinaloa, Mexico, called El Fuerte, “The Fort.” Situated on top of the tallest bluff along the river, the fort overlooks a forested wildlife preserve on the other side.

It is an old city, the birthplace of Don Diego de la Vega, known as the hero, Zorro. His wealthy parents moved, shortly after his birth, to the Los Angeles area of California, which was still part of Mexico.

Visitors and locals without a car, as well as those that don’t drive used to be in a bind in Los Alamos. There’s no bus service or other transportation available after 7 p.m. or on weekends. Non-drivers who need to leave the Hill to catch a plane or train were also facing a problem. Enter Los Alamos native Cindy Capelli and Los Alamos Taxi. Capelli, who also owns New Mexico Wine Tours, started Los Alamos Taxi a year ago to meet these needs.

This holiday season, travelers have the option of traveling to the Albuquerque or Santa Fe airports or the train station in one of Capelli’s vehicles. Los Read More

I was in high school when I read Isabella Bird’s famous book A Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains.

She was a 19th century British explorer who supported herself with writing. She traveled alone most of the time, and found that “pluck” was rather admired in the American West.

Most people were filled with too much admiration for her solo travel and independent spirit to do her any harm. Her adventure articles (and books) were published Read More

Solo Traveler: Traveling With Friends

Solo Traveler: Traveling With Friends

My mother has a friend who has traveled the world alone for the last 40years. When mom hinted she’d love to go on a trip, her friend diplomatically answered, “I wouldn’t want to jeopardize our friendship.”

Traveling with other people can certainly change a relationship. I have known of a few couples who started out as friends on a trip and ended up getting married later on. It’s also not unusual for an extended trip to seriously strain a marriage.

From personal experience, I can attest to being surprised at how a person I knew before traveling Read More

Avebury, a Site Worth Visiting

By TERALENE FOXX

Our traveling family (Kerri, Jason and Sydney Frazier) frequently joke that Kerri should get a bumper sticker that reads, “Will stop for flora, fauna, cheese, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.” Although it may be a joke, there is some truth to this. Kerri confesses “I am a serious UNESCO junkie and admittedly several of the places Read More
