Councilor Hosts Booth at County Fair Aug. 9

Saturday, Aug. 9, members of the public are encouraged to stop by the Los Alamos County Council’s booth at the County Fair and visit with Councilors and County staff about a variety of projects, topics and areas of interest, including pro-code enforcement, property maintenance, and the comprehensive planning efforts getting underway.

WALTON P. ELLIS July 30, 2014

Walton P. Ellis, PhD, 82, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 after a courageous fight with Leukemia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lou (Grove) Ellis; parents, Dan and Alpha Ellis; brothers, Joe and Oris Ellis and nephew, Jim Ellis.

Walt graduated with a Bachelors in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1953. He was awarded his PhD in Chemistry by the University of Chicago in 1957. I would like to encourage the residents of White Rock to give feedback to Smith’s Food and Drugs about the issue of prices not being the same at both of our Smith’s stores.
 
The sale ad that comes in the mail to ALL residents of Los Alamos (including White Rock) are only good at the Smith’s Marketplace. I have spoken with the customer service department and they recommend that we write letters and emails requesting that the prices of items available at both stores be the same.

Strother is Top Predictor and Female Finisher Again

Nikol Strother repeated her achievement of three weeks ago by being the top predictor of once second off her predicted time and being the top female finisher in the three-mile race with a time of 19:41 at Pinon (Rocket) Park in White Rock. 

Ted Romero followed suit by being the next best predictor with a five second differential and recording a 19:27 for best three-mile finisher.

School Grades Show New Mexico on Path to Improvement

There are several take-aways from the latest round of the New Mexico Public Education Department’s school grading.

One is that more schools earned A’s and B’s, and another is that more schools earned D’s and F’s.
