The League of Women Voter’s monthly Lunch with a Leader is set for 11:45 a.m., Thursday May 10 at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) on Orange Street.

Carol A. Clark of the Los Alamos Daily Post is the featured leader. Clark has covered local news in Los Alamos for nearly a decade.

Hasbrouck Wins Bandelier Photo Contest

Richard T. Hasbrouck of Truchas won first place in the 2013 Bandelier Annual Pass Photo and Art competition. His winning photo was among 96 entries submitted by 33 photographers and artists from across the United States and exhibited at Fuller Lodge recently. Hasbrouck, a retired electrical engineer from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, won an annual park pass, a copy of the award-winning movie Sky Island, narrated by Meryl Streep and N. On April 28, 2012, the banner of the Shire of Bryngolau (Shining Hill in Welsh) was raised for the first time when local members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) gathered for a day of fighting, feasting, music and dance in the style of the Middle Ages.

It was the Shire’s first official event.

LAHS Varsity Science Bowl Team Make New Mexico History

Congratulations to the Los Alamos High School Varsity Science Bowl team who made New Mexico history in the epic campaign to win National Science Bowl. Facing the best and the brightest that America has to offer, the team made up of Scott Carlsten, Micha Ben-Naim, Lorenzo Venneri, Kevin Gao, and Alexandr Wang, placed 9th in the nation. This was the first time a New Mexico team has broken round robin play and made double elimination. As Los Alamos considers the merits and possibility of building a municipal nature center, it is worth considering the genesis of the idea and the value that it adds to our community.  

Back in 1999 a large group of citizens gathered in Fuller Lodge to express their interest in a Los Alamos Nature Center.
