San Juan Representatives Honor Aztec Heroes Emery Hill And Kathleen ‘Katie’ Potter

SANTA FE — This morning, the House of Representatives honored Aztec High School employees Emery Hill and Kathleen “Katie” Potter for their brave actions to protect students after a disturbed shooter entered the school and began firing a weapon.
 
Hill and Potter were formally recognized in House Memorial 98 sponsored by Rep. Paul Bandy (R-Aztec), Rep. Rod Montoya (R-Farmington), Rep. James Strickler (R-Farmington), and Rep. Sharon Clahchischilliage (R-Kirtland).

Jury Orders Zia Credit Union To Pay Former Employee $1.5 Million

Zia Credit Union will pay $1.5 million to a former 20-year employee under a verdict handed down by a Santa Fe jury in a case involving a 1.3-acre piece of property in Pojoaque.

The case was originally filed in 2015 by Edwin Ortiz against Zia alleging wrongful discharge and defamation. Ortiz was hired by Zia in 1990 and worked his way up to senior vice president. He inherited the Pojoaque property from his parents.

Mesa Public Library Fire Panel Replacement

COUNTY News:

Great Western Specialties will be replacing the fire panel and all smoke, heat sensors and other devices at the Mesa Public Library beginning at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5. 

The crew will be working the overnight hours from 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5 through 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9. 

During this time, the library interior lights will all be on and passersby may see workers at all hours of the night. The goal is to work at night so there’s minimal disruption to daytime activities.

Documents Detail Discrimination Suit Against County

Documents make public the specific allegations of a suit filed in October, in First Judicial District Court, against Los Alamos County by a procurement department employee under the Fair Pay for Women Act (FPWA).

The documents include the findings of the Human Rights Bureau (HRB) of the Department of Workforce Solutions Labor Solutions Division.

Public Safety Alert: Non-Compliant Sex Offenders

SHERIFF’s OFFICE News:

Los Alamos County Sheriff Marco Lucero would like to advise the community of two sex offenders who reside or work in Los Alamos who are in violation of the law.

Thomas James Kluegel and Larry Luke Manzanares are in noncompliance with the New Mexico Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) by failing to register with the Los Alamos County Sheriff.

There are two active arrest warrants for these offenders. Anyone seeing them is encouraged to call police dispatch at 505.662.8222.
