Merry Christmas … Think Twice When You Say It!

By LEAH LUCK
Los Alamos

“Merry Christmas” – What does it mean? A blessing, a wish to a neighbor or friend. A reminder of Baby Jesus, his birth, the One who came for all on earth.

Why do we say, “Merry Christmas,” the offer of Peace, Hope and Goodwill? To share the love Christ has given, a love we can’t understand.

This time of year we stretch out our hand to help, to share with our fellow man Those blessings He so abundantly gives to the ones for whom he died so we can live.

So, let us wish “Merry Christmas” to all we come across, without fear of rejection, persecution or loss. Our liberty is Read More

AllerPops founder
Los Alamos

It was around 4 o’clock Sunday, and the sun was hidden behind a gray mass of clouds.

I was visiting AllerPops’ investors in Los Alamos and White Rock and started my visits in the early afternoon to reduce the discomfort on both sides. When I knocked on doors, many people were not home. When they were, I usually greeted them with a simple “Happy Holidays.” Occasionally, surprises came from behind the door. “I can write you a check for you if you come in and wait for a minute,” a gentleman who barely knew me from the last fundraise invited me into his house.

I had knocked Read More

Letter To The Editor: Response To ‘You Are What You Eat’

GANMAPATHYSUBRAMANIAN GOPNATHAN
Los Alamos

Apropos to the letter to Editor titled “You Are What You Eat” by Mr. Mark Devolder of Los Alamos:

It is high time American industrialists, entrepreneurs and businessmen introspect the present situation where a major chunk of products are ‘dumped’ on American consumer by Chinese despite the resources like land, labor, capital, brains and infrastructure being available in USA itself.

I am from India. And as Devolder points out with the well known ‘Dandi Yatra’ (pilgrimage to Dani… for making local salt by Mahathma Gandhi. Read More

Malizia: Biobot Analytics Response To John Pearson

BECCA MALIZIA
Biobot Analytics

I’m the Science Communications Manager for Biobot Analytics.

We came across a recent letter to the editor (Link) on tracking Covid in wastewater that mentioned Biobot, and we have a few comments we’d love to share:

  • Los Alamos County is a participant in the CDC’s NWSS Program. This program is managed by Biobot, but funded by the CDC. Biobot is not receiving funds from Los Alamos County;
  • Our variant data for Los Alamos County shows that the primary variant circulating is BA.5. For context, BF and BQ are subvariants of BA.5, which are included in the overall BA.5 percentage

This year, Hanukkah begins Sunday evening, Dec. 18 and ends Monday night, Dec. 26 Courtesy/Rabbi Jack Shlachter

By RABBI JACK SHLACHTER
Los Alamos Jewish Center

For millennia, the Jewish people have been celebrating a minor holiday which we call Hanukkah (from the Hebrew word meaning dedication) as a way to remember a historic event that occurred in Jerusalem nearly 2200 years ago. Though the Temple in Jerusalem was initially overrun and defiled by a numerically superior Greek/Syrian army following the collapse of the Alexandrian empire, a small band of rebel Jews recaptured the Temple and Read More
