Governor Proposes Nearly Doubling Funding For Early Reading Initiative

ALBUQUERQUE — Gov. Susana Martinez proposes a targeted $10 million expansion of the New Mexico Reads to Lead initiative, a statewide program that identifies struggling students in kindergarten through third grade and provides them with the help they need to strengthen their reading skills.

Los Alamos High School senior Tomas Teel recently attended the National Youth Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C.
 
The forum focused on national security, diplomacy, national intelligence processes and national defense.
 
Teel is one of 250 students nationwide selected to attend the forum Oct. 6-11. The forum included presentations and addresses by leaders in national security and intelligence, including former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.

The Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot Committee is calling creative young artists (4th – 6th grade) to submit an ORIGINAL drawing for the 2015 Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk &Turkey Trot Logo Contest!
 
The contest is open to kids in fourth through sixth grades whose family lives or works in Los Alamos County.
 
The winning ORIGINAL design will be used as the official t-shirt logo of the 2015 Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot, which takes place at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Los Alamos Middle School.
