Udall To Highlight Importance Of NM’s National Labs

WASHINGTON  Today, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall attended two hearings important to New Mexico. 
 
This morning, Udall will attended a Commerce Committee hearing to discuss the importance of protecting net neutrality and expanding broadband Internet to improve New Mexicans’ access to online health care services and economic and learning opportunities.
 
This afternoon, Udall attended a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development about the future of the national laboratories.

This year’s Los Alamos Middle School Scholastic Book Fair will be open 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday Nov. 21 during the Los Alamos Art Council Crafts Show.. 
 
The community is encouraged to shop the Scholastic Book Fair to support LAMS. Remember, books make great presents and in sending holiday presents in the mail, book rate postage is much cheaper than regular postage. 
 
The proceeds from the fair benefit both the library and the classrooms at LAMS.

ALBUQUERQUE  Margaret M. Marino has been appointed to lead the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS) in Albuquerque.
 
The NMMNHS is a division of the NM Department of Cultural Affairs and is one of the most highly visited museums in the state, serving more than 250,000 people annually and offering extensive education programs for children.

Prescribed Burn Planned On The Santa Fe National Forest Jemez Ranger District

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct prescribed burns in the Joaquin Canyon on the Jemez Ranger District. 
 
The Joaquin Canyon prescribed burn area, a total of 142 acres, is located approximately 8 miles west of Jemez Springs. 
 
The plan is to conduct the prescribed burn between Oct. 27 and Nov. 30, but that window is dependent on favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, and may be extended further into the fall months.

Car And Mail Truck Collision Closes Central At Knecht

UPDATE: Central Avenue at Knecht Street has reopened to traffic.
 
A car and a mail truck collided some 30 minutes ago on Central Avenue in downtown Los Alamos. The crash resulted in non life threatening injuries, according to police. Summit Garden Club Meets Nov. 2

The Summit Garden Club will hold its next meeting and program at 1:30 p.m., Nov. 2, at the home of Cheryl Warren, 1190 Sioux St. in Los Alamos.
 
The program speaker is Craig Wehner, owner and landscaper for Los Alamos Landscaping, LLC.
 
His talk is on hardscaping and will cover subjects such as design and types of landscaping materials. The public is invited and asked to bring questions regarding landscaping.
