County Launches Free Public WiFi For Public Use At Ashley Pond Park And Fuller Lodge Area

COUNTY News:

In support of new tourism initiatives surrounding promotion of Los Alamos as the home of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park, Los Alamos County has installed free WiFi for the public to use at Ashley Pond Park and nearby Fuller Lodge, including the eastern Fuller Lodge Lawn, and the Library overflow lot (used Thursdays by Farmer’s Market). Residents and visitors can search WiFi options for “LA Discoveries” on any WiFi enabled device to access the service.

SANTA FE – New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver has announced that she will extend the public comment period on her proposed campaign finance rule, which is intended to provide much needed guidance regarding New Mexico’s Campaign Reporting Act (CRA).

The new deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 19 to submit written comments by mail, email or fax.

With its cascading waterfall, flowering plants and swimming ducks; Ashley Pond is a picture-perfect postcard of serenity.

 

But there has been some trouble brewing beneath its waters. If walking on one of its curved wooden boardwalks, you can see the culprit to this trouble wafting lazily in the current. Algae has infiltrated the pond and the County is working to combat it.

JOSEPH LIPPARD THOMPSON May 12, 1932 – June 8, 2017

The loving family of Joseph Lippard Thompson, 85, of White Rock, NM, reports that he peacefully passed away in his sleep at home Thursday, June 8, 2017 from a very sudden illness of only a few days.

Born May 12, 1932 in Newport News, VA, Joe was raised in Virginia and served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant in Georgia. ​He earned a BS in Chemistry from Virginia Tech, followed by a PhD in Radiochemistry from Penn State. He taught chemistry for 17 years at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID where he raised his family.
