Council Tentatively Approves DPU’s FY2027 Budget

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities Manager Philo Shelton presents his department’s FY2027 budget this evening to the council. Council approved 6-1, with Councilor David Reagor opposed, to tentatively approve the department’s $94.6 million budget. Council also tentatively approved a $900,000 for a joint budget option between the utilities and Public Works departments, which would be for a road re-pavement and utility infrastructure improvement project. SANTA FE — The New Mexico State Treasurer’s Office today announced Linda P. Gallegos as the new State Cash Manager, effective Monday, May 4, 2026.

Gallegos brings decades of public finance, treasury operations, and government leadership experience to the role, where she will oversee the state’s daily cash management functions and strengthen coordination between the State Treasurer’s Office’s (STO) Cash Management and Investment Divisions to maximize efficiency, transparency, and returns for New Mexico taxpayers.

Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective today, April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, and natural and historical artifacts.

DPU’s Outdoor Watering Rule Starts On May 1

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities’ outdoor watering rule starts on Friday, May 1 and runs through Wednesday, Sept. 30.

DPU kindly asks residents to water according to their address and the schedule from May through September.
