County-Pajarito Astronomers Dark Night At Spirio Soccer Fields At Overlook Park Tonight!

Pajarito Astronomers News:

Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Divisions have partnered up with the Pajarito Astronomers for the Dark Night program.

Anyone with an interest in star gazing and the chance to look through a telescope is invited to come out to Spirio Soccer Fields tonight, July 15, at Overlook Park in White Rock.

Volunteers from the Pajarito Astronomers Club will be present with telescopes starting about 8:30 p.m.  until at least 11 p.m., and as late as midnight if there is continued interest.

Staff Report

A resolution designating Election Day polling places for all statewide and special elections conducted in 2024 and 2025 and establishing the County Canvassing Board through the end of 2025 was passed during Tuesday night’s Los Alamos County Council meeting, but not unanimously.

The resolution passed 5-1, with Councilor David Reagor opposed and Councilor Randall Ryti absent.

County Electric Crews Respond To Two Outages

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos utility customers on Circuit 13 experienced an outage early this morning after an overhead line failure. Circuit 13 includes the Western Area and neighborhoods aligning Trinity Drive from Diamond Drive to Timber Ridge Road.

The outage occurred shortly before 6 a.m. While restoration occurred around 7:15, a short, secondary outage was necessary to conduct the full repair.

Parks Division Kicks-Off Stable Lots Reallocation Draw

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Parks Division kicks-off its 2nd North Mesa Stables lot reallocation draw process today, July 12, 2023. The random draw selection process includes a registration period, followed by the draw itself.

The North Mesa Stables area is public land owned by Los Alamos County. Separate stable lots are individually licensed to residents on an annual basis, but the improvements on each lot are owned by the licensee. 

Los Alamos County has two lots – 48 and 143 – for which improvements and associated lot licenses will be made available through the draw process.

Los Alamos National Laboratory Schedules Emergency Preparedness Exercise For Wednesday July 12

LANL News:

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has scheduled an emergency preparedness exercise for Wednesday, July 12. 

The exercise will test the preparedness of personnel who would respond in the case of an actual emergency. The exercise will begin at 8 a.m. and last approximately 7 hours.  The event is only an exercise.

Some elements of this exercise may be observable to the public, such as increased emergency vehicle traffic, workers in protective equipment performing simulated activities and “exercise in progress” signage.

Los Alamos DPU To Dump Trash Bag Sales

COUNTY News:

Due to customer demand, trash bags have been sold through the Customer Care Center (CCC), a division of the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) since curbside bins were rolled out to the public almost 20 years ago.

DPU will discontinue the offering once all existing inventory is depleted.

Trash bags can be purchased for $18.50 per box of 200 while supplies last.

The CCC is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday on the ground floor of the Los Alamos County Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave. Read More
